@We rescue cats wrote:I donated to Goodwill for a very long time but then I saw workers loading coats I had donated earlier in the day into her car. I stopped donating to them and I too give to a women's shelter, YWCA or the St Vincent de Paul Thrift Store. Sheets, blankets and towels go the animal rescue groups and shelters, they are always in need of them.
I imagine the worker was taking the coats to somewhere they were needed. I doubt they were for herself. We have a donation shop in our town run by the local womans club. They will take things where they are needed at times like a church doing a coat drive.

Not anymore. I also have a problem with all of the stores that they keep building here in Arizona.
Why don't they use that money to help people and pay their employees a decent wage?

I don't feel like Goodwill is "junk and stuff' at all. Here in Florida, many older people pass and their children already have their homes furnished so they just don't need any more dishes and furniture or clothes...so Goodwill gets it to sell.
It's a Godsend for many!
I've bought a few treasures there myself!

@homedecor1 I find going through the ENDLESS clothing racks a daunting
task, I'm sure there are some "good" things in there, high end, quality clothing
within, but who has the time or patience to take that on. 😂
I did find some of my every day stainless flatware pieces at a phenominal
price! At the popular replacement site on the internet, (QVC doesn't allow us to say the name) my teaspoon is $16 for EACH teaspoon, I got them at Goodwill for .25 cents
a piece!!! 😮

I donate to the veterans. There are drop boxes in my community and a store in the city near me. I mostly buy items animal shelters need and donate to them.

I don't know about other states, or cities, but here in California..it's the rage. Thrift shopping. We have a nice goodwill here, clean organized like a fanatic. Clothes according to color, lol. But not always the best. We have a Salvation Army across town that is huge, and seems to have higher end stuff. The granddaughters go there, even my 26 yr old grandson gets his shirts for work there. IMO, Burbank, Studio city and Toluca Lake are the gold mines in thrift. My granddaughter lives there and we will hit five or six at a time. Name brand clothes, and not so name brand. Best jewelry, and vintage items...all great condition. If I was younger, I would have piled up. My granddaughter finds nice clothes, sweaters, bags and her baby clothes.

Well we visited many thrift stores this past week & I can say some were very organized. My cousins got some really nice pieces of clothing (a few still had tags!).
I almost bought a nice table that looked brand new but it wouldn't fit where I wanted to use it.
I can see myself checking out Salvation Army and hospice thrift stores once in awhile. Both had nice selection of furniture and home decor.

I love to go to Thrift stores and get baby blankets for my pups.
My son goes and buys clothes to work with the horses.
