Re: My first time shopping at Goodwill -

I used to love yard sales years ago when my kids were little and I got some great toys....lots of outdoor toys at a fraction of the price.

My brother likes to go to thrift stores and I went with him once and picked up a holiday decoration but for the most part I just don't need more junk...I am trying to reduce the items we have.

I will bring my clothing to a local consignment shop and twice I happened to pick up a cute item....a Susan Graver lightweight anorak summer jacket like new in black and a sparkly Chicos top that fit perfectly for a fraction of the original price!

Goodwill prices have gone way up. We might look,but rarely buy.

@Group 5 minus 1  that's what my husband says and he also says a lot of the stuff is broken furniture or junk.

@homedecor1

I like antique stores and estate sales.  Don't like thrift stores however many in my business - antique dealers - go often.

Not lately, but I have done well at the consignment shop in Bridgeport, CT (next to a church - Forgot what it is called) and the Goodwill in Shelton, CT.  That one had loads of Barbie stuff.  This was before the movie and everything was low priced.

I am running my own consignment operation only I'm trucking it to the Salvation Army.  I have four big boxes, lots of Talbots stuff, a lot with tags.  Comes from retiring, COVID, family illness, etc.  Clothes bought for a life no longer lived.  Oh well I hope it will be a blessing to somebody.

@Sooner From my own experience "Clothing bought for a life no longer lived", will find a good home.

When I retired I took 3 car loads of work clothing to Network of Victims Assistance. By the third trip the ladies were greeting me as I pulled into their driveway.

I have not missed any items and keep thinking I should do another purge. My life is casual now and I wear casual comfortable clothing.

We donated many sneakers/boots to Salvation Army. My husband was a runner and hiker. He frequently tried new running shoes and hiking boots, looking for "the perfect" pair. The man taking our donation at Salvation Army was SO HAPPY to get all the shoes. He kept saying that they always need them. It made us feel good that they could use them.

Re: My first time shopping at Goodwill -

I've donated lots of nice things to Goodwill, Dress for Success, and charitable organizations. I've never shopped at GW. I sell and buy at 2 local consignment stores. I've also been in a few thrift shops. Hit and miss on finding something I want or need in any of those places.

I get a lot of books at Goodwill,  .25 for paperback $1. for hardback.  Then I donate them back when I'm done.

If we all donated to and bought mostly from thrift stores it would be the best thing we could do.  Far far less pollution, more jobs for people around us, and more money for lots of people.  Including US!  Woman LOL
