@Kachina624 wrote:@Jordan2. If you're seriously unhappy, fire them. Two years ago, I got rid of Direct TV and have never looked back. There's a wealth of information in the Electronics Forum archives on how to "cut the cord". I wouldn't go back for anything.
I cut the cord with DirectTV in August when they tried to raise my rates $65 a month. Streaming is the way to go. Couldn't be happier.

We have been with Comcast since 2002. I could do commercials for them, we've been so pleased.
I started paying my sister's Spectrum bill last year. Over the last 4 months it's gone up because she would get popups for upgrading to Gold and would say yes. She has Alzheimer's and only watches sports and The Game Show Channel. I'd call Spectrum and explain and they'd lower it back to Select. Last bill was over $200
Well I called last Thursday morning and got Xavier. Wow, was he helpful and kind and professional. He told me about Spectrum Choice and we moved her to that. He also is sending me the forms to get her on Internet Assist which I read about from a poster here. He gave me a credit for last month's $200+ bill and the bill this month will be $103. When she gets on Internet Assist, it will drop to $73.00.
I'd hear horror stories about Spectrum but my experience with them has been great. Fingers crossed this all works out.

@Jordan2, do not even get me started with them!
Last month, I got our bill and it went up another $6.00 so we were just under $174.00. I know $6.00 isn't going to make me or break me but enough was enough already. It seemed every couple of months, the bill was going up and I was done.
We decided to dump our cable. We went through the channels that we get and I wrote down the must-have channels. Then we started to compare the various streaming services and went with Spectrum streaming. We get 25 "local" channels and 25 cable channels. There is only 1 channel that DH wanted that we don't get but we weren't going to subscribe to another service just for 1 channel. We called Spectrum and were given a price of $24.99 a month plus a $5.00 broadcasting fee and we wanted cloud DVR service so that was $6.00. Of course we lost our bundle discount for our high speed internet so that went up to $70.00 a month, an increase of $10.00. But still, we were saving about $70.00 a month.
Got my first bill and it was almost $170.00. My head almost exploded. I looked at it and they were charging me $5.00 more for the streaming service than I was quoted and I was charged $49.99 for a change of service fee. I spent nearly 50 minutes on the phone getting this straightened out. They immediately credited me the change of service fee because they never told me about it (they reviewed the call) and then I was switched over to someone else who argued with me about the monthly price of the streaming package but said he was crediting me and lowering the package price.
I checked my bill about a week later and the $49.99 came off but there is no credit still for the overcharge on the monthly streaming package. I am going to wait and see if the credit shows up on my next bill and if not, I'm calling them. Again, I know it's only $5.00 but I was quoted a price 3 times by 2 different reps and that's what they need to give me. They are ridiculous.

Here in New York I've been with Cablevision/Optimum for over 35 years. Every year for about the last 10 or so they try to raise my rates by $50 or more.I call up & threaten to switch to Verizon. I ask for the cancellation dept. They always negotiate with me & offer me packages that are equal to or better than what I have for the same or lower price.
As it is they charge too much. When they stop negotiating with me I will not hesitate to look elsewhere. I refuse to be held hostage.

@NicksmomESQ Have Optimum also. Do you have it bundled with phone and internet?

@NicksmomESQ I think ours is around $230 a month. I’m not sure if my husband ever calls to bring it down. I’ll have to ask. Not sure if we pay for extra channels. Either way, it’s too much.

I just paid our bill yesterday, and it was the same it had been, we have home phone, Internet, and cable TV all on one bill, I have no complaints!

I was considering switching to Spectrum's TV Select + Internet from my silver package. There are only 125 channels, many I like not included, 200 Mbps speeds although it says speed may vary ( I'm not sure what my speed is now). This isn't a good fit for me.

Cable companies around here are now less willing to negotiate. You will pay their price or they'll say good-bye, no hard feelings. The only way to reduce cost is to sign a contract or drop / reduce services. And even that doesn't work sometimes - I have landline + internet and asked what my cost would be if I dropped landline. They said it wouldn't change, because I would lose the double-play discount.
