My Son Cracks Me Up!

[ Edited ]

As a little kid he loved going grocery and any other shopping with me. I taught him about using coupons (a BIG deal back then), comparing prices, etc.

So a couple of weeks ago he bought something for their home they needed. He shopped around, found it on sale AND got a coupon for $30 off.

This is the text I got along with the photo of the item:.

"My mama didn't raise no fool to pay full price."

I'm still laughing every time I read it. He normally speaks correct English but was being funny!

Some of my grands were all over unit price a while back.  Good training by parents.

But they all have calculators on watches and phones so it took forever and a day do some grocery shopping.  Every brand, every size, every member coupon,......

I've also taught my daughter how to shop.  She has her first high school part time job.  I've noticed when shopping for clothes and some other items, she goes dtraight to the clearance area.  We were in Bath & Body Works the other day. because of their buy 3 get 3 and clearance AND she had a coupon (20% and free gift).  She was going to o the buy 3 get 3 free but then calculated in her head the cost and how many hours she had to work to pay for it then decided to just buy 2 clearance items.  So proud of her.

That's funny.   Our kids never forget the lessons we teach them.  They are there when our kids need it.

@chrystaltree  So true. He's 52 and my DIL has told me more than once that she is so glad my son LOVES to and does do 90% of the grocery shopping! He's a great bargain-finder and tries to economize wherever he can.

I think many mothers have taught their children the importance of budgeting, purchasing what is needed, watching for sales, using coupons, and not abusing credit care usage. At 52 I would hope he would be responsible enough to do those things. Especially since the economy pretty much dictates this be done in the current environment.

I have always been careful with money.  My husband just gets what he wants and doesn't look at prices or use coupons.

My daughter is careful like me and the two boys are like their father.  If they want something, and they can afford it, they just buy it.

If we need a new car or a big ticket item, I always negotiate.  My husband won't bother.  I negotiate for my kids too. I always go with them to buy a car.   It's crazy not to.

@RetRN He's always been a pretty responsible guy, even as a little kid.  I know of a lot of people in their 50's and my age (75) who don't have a clue about this stuff!
