Wow, you certainly have the run down on the whole situation....lol   Burglaries happen, they even happen to people who keep their blinds shut 24/7.  It's a fact of American life now.  We all have to be smart and cautious and aware but I don't think anyone wants to live in blacked out dungeon.  What's the point in having a nice home with windows and patio doors and lovely scenery, if we're going to shut it all out?  I don't think your neighbors were half as exposed as you want to believe.  I just think the incident un-nerved you.  It's obvious that they didn't have an alarm system and that is where they went wrong.  We have bay windows and a patio door too and when we moved in the very first thing we did was have security system installed.  We're on the 2nd floor but if theives want to get in, they will.  So, a security system if a must for everyone these days.  I certainly do not think that closing one's blinds offers any type of protection against theft at all.  Not that closing ones' blinds isn't a good thing.  It does keep neighbors from spying on you and taking inventory of all your "stuff".....lol

I lock my doors now, hardly ever did when I lived in the country years ago. A lot of towns now have a heroin epidemic and people will steal whatever they can get their hands on, whether they know you or not. Sadly some times they do know you and what you have.

I would like to thank **nunya** for bringing this information out, as a reminder to every one...yes..indeed "the epidemic of heroin, along with users of all street drugs" is at an all time high. This strikes (breaking into homes-small, large, apartments) affects all of us-at any given time. If someone wants to break in to one's home, their car-sooner or later that/that person(s) will find away. We have in our community approximately 16 paid police -full time, for just about 800 residents. With that being said, there was (1) break in not far from our home who had Disquised hImself  as a survey associate to a man, 60 +. That man was only at the entry door when he shot the lower leg of the owner's home, then shoved him onto the floor, gagged him, took his money, any evaluable...then was out of sight within minutes. He was caught a few hours later. From another county, but had plenty of information about him to wait-come back-,and strike. This has been (as I have been told- before we lived in this quite protected community) ...the 1st since anything even similar to news worthy...since the 60s.  Drug use/addicts are everywhere, as I read, hear daily news, so this comes to NO surprise to me. We do have round the clock protection for our home. I do not care where You live-What neighborhood watch there is- Neighbors watching out for each other...someone always knows when you leave, who's in the house- be that dogs, alarm systems, et cetra-

:::::they probably know more about what you have or know about you than you can come to believe:::::

Many moons ago my ex picked up our son at school- it was his week-end..  they pulled into his driveway and my son said, "Dad, isn't the boat supposed to be sitting here."  By golly his gorgeous bass boat was gone & the neighbors watched the culprits hook it up, thinking said ex had let a friend borrow it.

@Lipstickdiva - no and no need to be snarky - I was explaining what kind of blinds they were - top down/bottom up made by Bali - and they are fabric not Venetian blind material.

My comment wasn't meant for you.  It was meant for Mygirlsmom.  I didn't understand her comment of "blinds, as in venetian blinds - oh my."  It came across to me as if she thinks venetian blinds are outdated, ugly, whatever.

I'm sorry you thought I was snarky to you.  Smiley Sad

You must never sleep.   What do you expect, neighbors to be awake in the middle of the night?

You're so right chrystaltree, I took inventory of all their belongings.   I am a voyeur and love to watch the neighbors.   i actually called my drug dealer contact and told him where everything was and made a map so he and his thugs could just go in and pick it all up.    Can't wait to get my take on the stash!!!

Who cares what Officer Mark Delquena told us the next morning.   He's a cop, what does he know.     Yes, yes, you have me figured out.   Aren't you the smart one here.

I bet that banker think he was there in Conn. and his wife and kids lived in a nice neighborhood too that don't mean squat. Half the gated communities I've gone to nobody is ever at the gate and we drove right in.

Can't depend on somebody to take care of you I learned that a long, long time ago.

The case in CT (Dr. Petit and his late wife and late two daughters) happened in an affluent, upscale neighborhood.  It began actually in a grocery store, when Mrs. Petit and girls were shopping.  Two very evil men were there, and one of them was attracted to the little girl.  They followed them home.  Dr. Petit survived and eventually remarried, to a fine woman, and they now have a little son.  I do not know how he managed to pull through.

I for one don't sleep well at all and yes I'm awake in the middle of the night, lots and lots of nights.  I'm always looking out the window, you don't know what you'll see... Mostly it's our family of deer but I did catch someone hooking our neighbors boat up many years ago in Memphis- needless to say when I coughed they almost piffed their pants and got the heck out of dodge...

Our neighgbors have a deer cam and lo and behold not only did they get deer, there was a man around 3:30 in the back yard...  Now that's scary!

Thank you couldn't remember if he was a banker or a Dr.

These people know who has money and who doesn't. I'm amazed at people who don't pay attention to their surroundings and who is watching them, etc. I think people just don't think it can happen to them and live in some kind of fantasy world.

I remember when that happened. It affected a lot of people, but, they(the criminals) have been taken care nobody walked and they will get their final 'reward', later.................
