@Jordan2

I've had an accumulation of bad experiences so I finally filed a complaint....I was AMAZED that someone at the central number actually answered the phone and took my complaint and said someone would contact me within 48 hours...

1. A neighbor knocked on my door and delivered 6 pieces of mail that had been misdelivered and put in her mailbox by mistake......

2.  I got somone else's package along with mine....I requested a re-delivery, but he never showed up, so I called UPS since it was a UPS mail innovations delivery through USPS, told them what happened and they eagerly agreed to pick it up and re-deliver at no charge.  Well the USPS guy shows up 3 days later, knocks on the door and says wheres the package....I told him the request for a pick up was 3 days ago no one came and I called UPS and they took care of it ....He never apologized or anything...he just gave me a GO TO HELL LOOK AND WALKED OFF!!!

3. I got an email that a package had been delivered to my neighbor AT MY REQUEST---- I didnt request any such thing....and even double checked QVC order and my USPS INFORMED DELIVERY---NO REQUEST EXISTED..... I dont know if the guy just clicked the post person clicked the wrong thing on the website, or if my neighbor, who is a busy nurse left the package at my door....But I was concerned about this request and wanted to make sure packages were just left at my door since I work from home and staying home more and didnt want packages left with any of my neighbors!!!

. I even told the guy I understand they are busy with co-vid more orders, and the changes at USPS, and we all make mistakes, but the accumulation of bad service has reached an unacceptable level....And we had experienced similar experiences a couple years ago---long before Co-Vid....

I see that Im not alone with my bad service experiences...

A friend of mine, has a son that drove for UPS, Summers and during the Christmas season, as a second job, for a couple of years.

He said they were told, to never ring doorbells or knock, because of the risk of disturbing people.  There was no way to know who might have day sleepers, babies, someone sick in the home, etc.

When he first started, he knew the policy, but, a few times, forgot and just automatically rang the bell.  He got a couple of complaints and a write up, and said he never forgot again!

I am the OP. I have had substitute mail carriers ring my bell when they deliver a package, not my regular guy. I have a mailbox that has two hooks, like for magazines, this guy will wedge my package in between the hooks and box, making it very difficult to get it out. I think the gravy train is over, I'm not giving him a tip at all. As to those who say he isn't suppose to accept a tip, I am hardly ever turned down when I offer a tip to anyone.

That's interesting, because my ups guys always knock. I have ups My Choice and requested that all deliveries be left at side door (out of sight from the street).  There's no doorbell at that door, so they knock, and I'm happy that they do.

I used to have a really good mailman.Since he retired I see different ones all the time. Some are better than others. I don't tip because the service & the mail person  varies.

In the summer I do offer them bottles of water when I happen to see them.

I do have sort of a friendship with the UPS guy. I've had the same one for over 10 years. He is polite & helpful. When I tell him I'll be away he holds my packages for me.In the summer I give him cold water & in the winter I give him coffee in a to go cup. He will not accept Christmas gifts.

The UPS guys are great!!!  One even saw me carrying some trash to the recycle bin and offered to take it for me.....Efficient, Friendly and professional...no problems with UPS!

My mailbox is at the end of my driveway so I never see or interact with a carrier. Any packages that can't be stuffed in the mailbox are left by the front door, no doorbell ring.  Rarely do Prime, UPS or FedX delivery persons ring the bell but I get an immediate text to my phone that the package has been delivered because drivers have to scan as proof of delivery.  I prefer this to ringing the bell and having the dog go nuts. Prime driver's text usually includes a picture showing where it was delivered. I have lots of pictures of my front door.

But watch those Prime driver's because some of the same one's that took that photo...come back later and steal the packages (they've been caught )~

@Spurt   Yes ,my UPS guy saw me struggling to lift a large tray of water bottles from the trunk of my car.He jumped out of his truck & carried it to my front door. He's always smiling & always a gentleman.

Wow!  You are way too generous, and he is not allowed to accept cash...so shame on him.

Tipping rules should be updated. I also give cash and/or cash and gifts. None of the post office's business.

I get my mail late everyday, after 4:00, today it was closer to 5:30. I know my regular mail carrier worked today, I saw him. Anyway I got a package today, he leaves it on my porch. I don't have young children, he knows I don't, why can't he ring the bell? This same mailman gets annoyed if in the winter I  occasionally give him a letter to take back to the post office ( he's going anyway and he shoots daggers at me). I am an idiot because I give him a  $50 tip at Christmas. No one likes him, I don't think he gets much at Christmas time, I may discontinue my tipping, I can't get much worse service from him.

I doubt that it's part of the carrier to ring the bell.  Their job duties are to carry the mail and drop it off.  Even UPS and FedEx carriers don't do that, at least around here.  It's not something I would expect of them.

I looked it up on USPS site and it said:

  • Place larger packages on porch or doorstep.

Are u aware of all the porch pirates???? Anything put on a porch or in front of the door disappears in a New York Minute. People in my area are also reporting that they left something on their driveway or on their porch for a few minutes - and it was stolen. Most have video cameras - and the perps wear hoodies or just wave to the camera. They're on bikes, skateboards, cars. This is what they do every day!!!!!
