@SouthernBee I was going to suggest Informed Delivery; but, you are right. It's not that great. It rarely lists packages and is nearly always incomplete. My mail carrier is less than satisfactory. About a month ago I found a QVC box with a wax Luminara LightLi candle stuffed into the end of my mailbox and softening in the heat of the day. My neighbor told me she's watched him walk halfway up my driveway and slide the box the rest of the way.

The best mailman I ever had is no longer delivering on my route. He had an injury to his shoulder and could not drive his truck or handle parcels. He was my mailman for about three years and I gave him a generous gift of cash every Christmas. He now works at a desk job and plans to retire next year.

I love my mail lady. She will ring the door bell if I have a package. My UPS & new Fed Ex guys also ring my door bell.

My mailbox is at the end of my driveway so I never see or interact with a carrier. Any packages that can't be stuffed in the mailbox are left by the front door, no doorbell ring. Rarely do Prime, UPS or FedX delivery persons ring the bell but I get an immediate text to my phone that the package has been delivered because drivers have to scan as proof of delivery. I prefer this to ringing the bell and having the dog go nuts. Prime driver's text usually includes a picture showing where it was delivered. I have lots of pictures of my front door.

I absolutely HATE our mail lady. We call her Newman because she is so unbelievably miserable. She doesn't go out of her way to do anything - if she can't fit a package in our large mailbox at the curb she puts a note in that we have to pick it up at the post office. If a car is parked too close to the box she won't even try to deliver the mail. Sometimes she is just so lazy and drives right by our mailbox to the next one and the next day our mail has a "blocked box" notice on it with the previous day's date. My husband has been working from home in the study by the front window and has actually witnessed this behavior. After that, we complained. The postmaster actually came to our house to talk about it - we were impressed. Seems we weren't the only ones to complain about her. So far, since then, it has been better. Still not perfect. and still no customer service or politeness on her part. but at least we get our mail regularly.

I don't have a regular mailman. If there is a box or something that doesn't fit in mailbox, the mailmal will drive up my somewhat steep driveway and leave it by my garage doors. We leave stuff all the time in the mailbox to be taken. There are no mailboxes or central mail in my neighborhood and the post office is far. I've never tipped a mailman.

I don't have young children, he knows I don't, why can't he ring the bell? This same mailman gets annoyed if in the winter I occasionally give him a letter to take back to the post office ( he's going anyway and he shoots daggers at me). I am an idiot because I give him a $50 tip at Christmas. No one likes him, I don't think he gets much at Christmas time, I may discontinue my tipping, I can't get much worse service from him.
I doubt that it's part of the carrier to ring the bell. Their job duties are to carry the mail and drop it off. Even UPS and FedEx carriers don't do that, at least around here. It's not something I would expect of them.
I looked it up on USPS site and it said:
- Place larger packages on porch or doorstep.
My UPS guy and Instacart always knock at my door, not so with USPS....

My mailman covers our 700 unit complex, each building has 2-4 apts in it, my mail arrives anytime between 1 and 5:30. I used to leave holiday goodies him and my UPS give, I have stop both since his service is less and less reliable and the great UPS guy is only in this area on Monday and the rest of the week the packages are left by the mail box or on the stairs
