For him to comment, it must have been really annoying.

I have my keyboard clicks sound turned off.....I can understand why he might have been annoyed.....he might have had some health concerns on his mind or somethng else that might have made it annoying to hear someone clicking away.

A lesson learned. Be glad he spoke up and brought it to your attention. Now you know. Just think how many other people in other settings may have been annoyed by the sound that didn't speak up. Silenty giving you the stink eye but not saying anything. No one wants to intentionally make others annoyed.

@RainyDayGal Thank you for a sensible comment instead of a condemnation. I found where to turn the sound off and did so. I didn't realize it was an option, because honestly I rarely use my cell in a public setting. I was just ready to turn it off when I decided to send my son a quick, short text prior to doing so. The office was very noisy, so I guess I didn't think much of the noise coming from my keyboard. As you said, a lesson learned and thank you again.

Haven't read the entire thread, so in the unlikely event no one has stated this, here goes: Putting your phone on silent stops the noises on both ends. Any noises that might be coming in, like calls and texts, and any noises going out, like the whoosh noise of an outgoing text, and the clicking text noise too.

@pattypeep, I don't think anyone here, perhaps with one exception, "condemned" you for making noise while texting or not knowing that you could turn the keyboard off. All I read was that most everyone gave their opinion (in fact, in a most polite way) that the noise would annoy them... and some offered a means for correcting the issue, if you so choose.
I think you expected everyone to agree with you when you started this thread. Not agreeing with you is certainly not a condemnation of you.

I think I am the odd (wo)man out here. The sound doesn't bother me and I've never noticed (heard) it coming from anyone's phone while out and about.
And these days, at least in my part of the world, anywhere you go at least 50% of the people who are waiting anywhere are on their phones, not talking but texting/reading. You are making it sound like waiting rooms are all silent, with people just sitting there not making an noise at all.

I hate when people do not turn their volume down when texting. JMO It is like the person is so self absorbed and can't be bothered. That is what loud texting reminds me of. Its as bad as people talking loudly on their phones in a store oblivious to other customers or that they are in the way and wont move. Maybe the kid had a hearing issue and that sound was triggering it. Certain noises go through people like nails on a chalkboard.

The "clicks" don't bother me as this is the "age" we live in thanks to being attached to our devices (me included sometimes).
i will tell you I do turn the "Bluetooth/message text" off in my car when I am traveling alone mainly because it startles me when I'm driving & 1/2 the time they are telemarketer calls OR stupid FB notifications, when I'm driving I don't care about a friend "watering her flowers". I just find for me I'll "read it/answer it" (it comes across my display) vs concentrating on the road & here you need to be aware while driving. I have my navigation system set for voice only.
My biggest "pet peeve" is those who talk on their phones holding up a check-out line, close quarters, etc. honestly, do they realize the whole world doesn't care to hear their conversation!😳 I've actually 🙄🙄🙄🙄 at this person who was discussing a very personal matter while waiting in a check-out line, I think she got the message...people can read "body language" pretty good if they care too!
