My Kitty Is trying to escape

Everyday when I leave for work and return home my cat tries to get out. He is fast as lightning and has gotten passed me several times. Im so afraid he will get away from me but so far he he just crouches on the porch untill I grab him Any tips on how to stop him from trying to get out Thanks
