Yesterday I had to put down my beloved 110 lb Doberman, Kino. He wasn't himself the past two weeks and was very sad as was I. DH and I took him to the vet on the 10th. Chest xray revealed an infection. He was put on antibiotics with a re-check on the 18th.
I noticed over the weekend he was not gulping his food down as usual and knew something was going on in his mouth/throat.
Took him back yesterday and told the vet to xray head area. She showed us something going on in the throat that was pressing on his trachea. We rushed him to specialized vet and were adivsed that indeed there was one large mass and a few smaller masses on the other side.
Given his age, 10 yrs & 8 months, we made the painful decision.
I know he is no longer in pain and I miss him dearly.

Losing a pet is emotionally devastating. You mercifully took away his pain.

So sad for you that your sweet Doberman, Kino is no longer with you. That is a very hard decision to make. Our pets are like family and are very special.
I had a very special Kitty, named Kelly and she had a similar problem. We had to make that decision which is always hard but she is now longer in pain. She will always have a special spot in my heart and soul.
I will keep you in my thoughts.

@MaverDaver My deepest sympathies on the loss of your sweet Kino. May you feel peace in knowing that you did the right thing.
So many of us here are all too familiar with that pain. One day at a time. Bless you!

@MaverDaver --my sympathies to you and your spouse!! I know how you feel. Had to put down my 16 year old cat last September due to many terminal issues that seemed to flair up all at once. It is the most heartbreaking decision I've ever had to make--in fact I am tearing up as I type. Even knowing I made the right decision, it still eats at me. I miss her every day!! And you did make the right decision---

@MaverDaver OMG so sorry you lost your buddy. I've heard it said "When you get a dog, you're likely to out live it". Sad but true.
Take the time to grieve since Kino was family, not just a pet.

I'm so sorry.![]()
I've often heard the saying that the only bad day of owning a pet is the day you
lose him or her.
I unfortuantely know the pain as well.
Time will slowly ease your heartbreak, rest easy knowing that Kino is at peace.
