We have a JetPack from Verizon that is like that.
When our cable internet was down we used it and got a warning from Verizon that we were getting close to using all of our gigs. Who knew?

It's not like we have a business or anything. On 4/5/2014 happy housewife said: I should have said that differently, I guess. It will cost us $10 MORE than our current internet service - $50 instead of $40 but this one is portable - we can take it anywhere there is verizon satellite service.but how much data can you use? i dont think any of the portable plans have unlimited data like a home plan would.

It isn't. You don't plug this into the computer.

but is it practical for a family to use as its sole source of internet? .....and how much data do you have on yours? it only sounds like it is practical if you are a single person OR a couple possibly.

Fi so it may be what you have. I've had it for about 4 years because I live in the middle of nowhere. We've been told that cable will probably never make it out here. At first it was much faster than dial up but still slow. They are always updating cell towers so it does well now. Keep in mind that how fast it is and how strong a signal will always be based on how near or far away you are from the closest cell tower.
Advantages - its portable and I'm guessing if it is truly a Jet Pack, up to 5 electronics can hook up to it at once and it can be used a lot of places.
Disadvantages - if you go over your data allowance its not cheap - but as someone said, you should be receiving notifications that you are getting close to maxing out your data.
