I had a bee string last year...with the stinger & everything.

Stunned how quickly it happened.

It felt like a bolt of electricity.

A yr later & I can still kinda 'feel' the feeling.  Boof!!

Am I the only one who 'felt' that?

I had that happen to me. I think the bee hit a nerve.Woman Surprised @sidsmom

I remember watching a program where a lady had a condition...

I think it was MS...and she was using bee stings as a holistic treatment.

She mentioned how much it hurt...that it reminded her of electricity.

Maybe I remembered that verbiage.  It was on my finger, so it's very likely

a nerve was hit!

Re: My FIRST BEE STING

[ Edited ]

I too had my very first bee sting only a few years ago in my early 60s.

Had just gotten in my car at the end of a work day. It was summer and the car was roasting. Although I turned the a/c on I also opened the windows to let the hot air out, and a lone bee must have flown in before I closed them again.

Was driving home, and had to put my hand on the passenger seat when I needed to stop a bit abruptly in heavy traffic. On the bee. I only knew because I felt a sharp pain in the palm of my hand, first needle-like, then more burning. Looked down and saw the bee, and thought OMG kwap.

I literally couldn't do a thing about it in heavy traffic until I got home - another 20-25 min at least. Such a fun drive 😫 When I got home, I was lucky enough to be able to slide the stinger out in one piece. I took antihistamines and put cortisone cream on it and took an NSAID. I also used ice. I didn't have anything else around.

It hurt for about another hour and a half, then gradually stopped.

When I was a child I was stung by a huge wasp or hornet, not sure what it was. But it left a hole in my leg after it happened and today I still have the scar to prove it.

Bees are bad enough, but hornet's are worse as they can sting you multiple times. DH is an entomologist and he told me bee stingers have barbs like fish hooks so they get stuck in you. Hornet's stingers are like little hypodermic needles and can work several times without getting stuck in you. We have hornets here off and on that build nests and must be eradicated.

That's true, yellow jackets too.   The yellow jackets make their nest in the ground.  One got in my shoe once and stung the heck out of me over & over until I could get the shoe off and kill it.    They feel any disturbance on ground level and can swarm.   All of these stinging insects are dangerous.

@Moonchilde,   Gosh, I can feel for you driving home in pain.  That is awful.  The Bactine spray for some reason calmed it down and the baking soda and water paste (I used twice) took down swelling.  I pray this is my first and last sting.  I can't imagine getting a whole nest of bees after you!!  Eek!!!

@SilleeMee,  That had to be a horrible experience and you have the scars to prove it!  I know now I had no business pouring water over the bees.

@Katcat1, I didn't have any when I was stung, but I used to have some on hand for mosquito or flea bites - After Bite, found at CVS and I'm sure other drug stores. I think the active ingredient is ammonia.

I assure you I had nothing to do with this.

@just bee,   LOL -  That was cute.  My girlfriend was telling me there are bees and then there are yellow jackets.  I have to look up on the Internet to see the different.  They were small and were somewhat striped with a deep yellow.  She said yellow jackets are mean.  HELP!
