My heart is absolutely shattered and I am in shock. Everything seemed fine this morning, except that Gracie yakked a couple of times, but nothing out of the ordinary. She, Radar and Veddy ran and played and had a normal morning. Around noon, Gracie came ripping down the stairs like something had just scared the living daylights out of her, and she ran and hid. I didn't think anything of it, because I'd been running the vacuum, and while the cats don't like that, it doesn't necessarily affect them negatively. At lunchtime, I made my turkey sandwich and called for Gracie, as she likes me to toss tiny shreds of turkey meat down for her to eat. She didn't come, but again, I knew something had scared her and she was likely hiding and asleep.
A couple of hours later, I got up to go into the bathroom and she was laying in the hallway. She has had mild epileptic seizures occasionally, and when I first looked at her, I thought she was having one. I stopped to comfort her, but could tell immediately something was very wrong. She was laboring to breathe, and I could see her heart beating through her fur. It was beating extremely fast. It's been over 4 hours that she's been like this. I tried to contact Dr. Bowers, and he did call me back, but he is in Maryland (I'm in PA). After telling him everything, he told me that it doesn't sound like something that's going to be treatable, and in all honesty, he doesn't have to tell me that -- I can see it for myself He said if I want to try and wait it out, he would be in the office in the AM and I could bring her in, but I can't watch her suffer like this.
I contacted our local emergency vet and they can't see her til 7 PM. She has been suffering, trying to breathe, and I am not going to try to 'treat' her. It doesn't take a vet to see that this is nothing treatable. I ask for your prayers as I once again start a grieving process for a beloved kitty -- a true angel who was a little guardian for me, Radar and Veddy. I had her for 2 years. That's it. She was a year old when I rescued her.
Thanks, ladies. Love you all!
