I don't even notice it.

Our Publix music has the oldies at times and I'll subconsciously catch this oldie rockin to the oldies while shopping.. it's nice. But at my hair salon, they have a spa and play, some days, that flute music stuff. I told my stylist (the owner) several of us were about to fall out asleep from it. LOL

I saw this 'new' post today....but it showed I've responded to it.
Huh? Gosh, I don't even remember reading it!
Opened it up....ahhhh....it's from December!
Funny when posters resurrect old posts! Ha

So, music in stores, like it or is silence golden?
I prefer silence. There's one store I shop at that always has the music on too loudly, and I ask the manager to turn it down. Sometimes when shopping you want to think .... and blaring music is just too annoying for words.

It depends on the music, I don't mind soft instrumental music, or instrumental music of Christmas songs (I prefer to select the Christmas vocals myself). However, the grocery store closest to me must have a new Manager who enjoys playing heavy metal music full blast.....I just cant stand it (complaints to the store were ignored) and prefer to drive a small distance away so I won't have to hear it while I shop.....
At a Department Store I heard a rather raunchy hip hop song and I asked the cashier about it.....she agreed and just giggled....
I understand totally what you mean regarding the comment that store employees complained they heard the same songs all day long.....Our office building had Muzak and we got so tired to it....you didn't even need to check the time on your computer because faithfully the SAME SONG would come on at the SAME TIME each and every day....at first, my co-workers and I made a joke out of it....Oh it's 9:00 AM because it's Taylor Swift, oh it's 11:00 AM time for the oldie from Chicago....There were so many complaints that they UNPLUGGED Muzak....silence is indeed golden in this case.

Most of the time, I don't notice.

I agree.
If they are playing a nice selection of relaxing classical, that's ok for me.
Anything else, I'd rather have silence.

I can go Johnny Mathias, Burl Ives, but, these loud mouth screamers makes me want to put down my groceries and head for the car. Then you got the screaming babies, kids running around unattended and mothers just glad to be rid of them for a few minutes and I'm ready to say to H e * * with it and go home.
Don't forget 'Santa Baby'

As much as I love Christmas and Christmas music, every store in American must have that Christmas mix with Mariah Carey with All I Want For Christmas Is You (and to think when the song first came out I actually liked it--LOL)...and the Paul McCartney song, "Simply Having A Wonderful Christmas Time"....you can't shop for even 30 minutes without the song being repeated in the same store .....and then you move on to another store and hear it over and over again!!!

As long as the music isn't too fast and loud. In advertising classes (a hundred years ago, lol) we learned that slow music is used when the establishment wants customers to browse around, take their time looking here and there (dept. stores, etc.). And fast music is used to prompt folks to not hang around for too-too long (crowded, busy restaurants, etc.)

I love music while shopping, and I am known to sing along and bop my head to the music while holding the cart.
