Maybe they saved their money.

My most detailed tattoo, took eight hours (with breaks) and cost me $800.

I saved up my money for it.

Re: Multiple Piercings and Tattoos

My son is a tatoo artist.  His first tat was a remembrance of best friend that committed suicide. Both were 18 at the time and in USMC.  Now, of course, he has several. My DIL has several, some before son became an artist, several after. ExDIL has a Tramp Stamp and a Tribal tattoo.  Neices,Nephews tattoos.  Several in family did cancer ribbon in my honor and a special design in memory of a young Nephew.  There are the ear holes (can't remember name) from 1" to 3", eyebrow, nose, lip tongue piercings.  DH has an Indian design on shoulder that was a surprise (from me for his Bday) to him when sons took him to a tattoo party.  Non of this people are mean, nasty, dirty.  My son is a gentle, loving Son,Husband and Father.   My other son does not do tatts, nor does That DIL.  Also none for me!   Tattoo art can be beautiful, or it can mean vicious, horrible things.  None of them would tattoo a teardrop on their face, for instance.

Exactly.

True story - my late husband was in a wheelchair during the last Christmas season of his life.  We wanted to do some Christmas shopping and headed out to the local mall.  Well, the worst we were treated, with glares and heavy sighs and even at one point elbowed because we got in some folks way came from well-dressed folks.  You know who jumped in without hesitation to help us with doors and even interceded for us in the elbowing incident?  A number of goth young folks.  They were heavily tatted, pierced, black lipstick and nails, leather and dog collars and BIG SMILES and helping hands.

@Buck-i-Nana

Must be something in the water in Ohio, because twice in my life, I have broken down right on the city streets in my hometown (once it was dark, snowing and I was very pregnant).

Both times, all the nice looking men in suits and ties, and all the 'regular' looking people drove on by, while I tried to call for help to get my car out of the lanes of traffic.

Both times, the only people to stop and help me were completely tatooed and pierced, risked their own safety to push my car off the road, into a nearby parking lot, and offered me a ride.

We really can't judge a book by it's cover, can we?

Re: Multiple Piercings and Tattoos

To me some tattoo art is just lovely. And some tattoos are an assault on my eyes.

About 20 years ago I came very close to getting a small mermaid tattoo near the back of my neck. Two things stopped me:

1. The art displayed in the shops was off-putting - death, daggers, graves. (This atmosphere may be different now).

2. Everyone I'd met that was over 50 said that they'd regretted getting a tattoo.

So I bailed on getting it and I'm actually glad I did.

I work with many tattooed people of all ages; it's no biggie. It's just what they like to do. I also think that it is somewhat of a trend and in years to come the pendulum will swing back and plain skin will be back "in."

What I really dislike are the gauged ears. Small ones - fine. But earlobes stretched out to the size of a silver dollar are just not a pretty sight.

Decorating your own body is creative self-expression, something that all individuals have a right to.

Too bad there's so many narrow-minded people around that instantly assume and judge.

^ This. Not to paint a broad stroke or anything, but a GREAT deal of the goths tend to be sweethearts and most of them love animals. They're intimidating to look at (not really), but that's pretty much it.

I see so many young woman with  multiple piercings in their lips, nose, eye brows......and tattoos all down their arms, on their backs, on their necks..... I can see maybe one small tattoo....ot one piercing....but so many? It does not look nice, not feminine  all. Actually it looks rather dirty and nasty to me.

Most people look OK with one or two tattoos/piercings, but the truth is that most major body art looks absolutely horrible on most people. i can count on one hand the number of times in person that I've seen extensive, high quality body art on the appropriate body for that art.

I don't have a problem with either.  At the workplace, I think tattoos should be covered, depending on  what type of work you due. Certain piercings, as well.

Agreed

Yet @feline groovy, I would also say that "non-decorating" is also a form of self-expression. :-)

My sister has been getting tattoos for 20 years at least.  Probably will get more.  She hasn't regretted it ever.   Hers are hidden, most people don't even know she has them.

I'm not sure what people who can't stand looking at them will do, they're here to stay.   I know very few young people who don't have them.   If I'm staring at a tattooed person it's because I'm trying to see what the tattoos are.

I used to watch tattoo nightmares.   Those guys did amazing coverups.
