I think Savannah must be beautiful...one of my favorite movies is Midnight in The Garden of Good and Evil.

I want to see the bird girl statue...

marie, you'll find this interesting- I thought I'd heard they'd moved the statue..

Thanks for the link Peachysue. I hadn't realized that about the statue being moved!

We've been there to visit a few times and the people seen very nice. Yes, different in many ways. But I'm looking forward to getting away from months and months of snow and ice that seems to go on forever.

I lived in Queens and Long Island, New York until I was thirty four when we moved to Los Angeles, CA. I was nervous about it and missed N.Y. for the first two years. I grew to love California and am sorry I left it and would be so happy if I could go back. I think you will do just fine and I'm with you about the snow, ice and cold, you won't miss that for sure. Good luck to you.

Re: Moving to Savannah GA area

Peachy sue, thanks for the links. I've got a lot of reading to do! We've contacted a few realtors but we haven't had much luck with anyone getting back to us. But my husband will be down there for a while before I move down so we hope by the time our house sells here, he has a better sense of towns and areas we might want to live and also areas where I can get a job. I do bookkeeping so I don't think it will be too bad. Thanks again for the all the input!

I'm going to step in here and say what I think the poster meant.

It doesn't have to mean anything offensive.

But it IS different living in different parts of the country.

Weather, for one thing. Landscape, scenery. Cultural things..how things are done, local vernacular, how outgoing (or not) the people are, local foods and customs and traditions...to name a few.

So if you've lived your whole life in Maine, it definitely could be culture shock to move to the South. Doesn't mean it's bad, or that you won't get used to it,or won't grow to LOVE it in your new home.

Just like if you lived your whole life in NYC, and you moved to, for example, Espanola, NM. You would definitely have culture shock at first.

I understand what you're saying but people from the South are made fun of.. I hope Maizer is very happy in their move to Savannah.. the words culture shock can be taken differently and I suppose I took it on the defensive side-- my apologies to OP and everyone..

The first thing I thought of was culture shock too. People are going to take it the way they want to. I hope Maizer is very happy with her move.

Re: Moving to Savannah GA area

There would be culture shock for anyone moving from GA to ME too. Moving is hard and people are different in different parts of the country. i have always heard people in the South are very friendly, probably more so then where I live. I think there are good people everywhere you go and you just have to find your place. And all I can think about is NO more shoveling and driving in ice and snow. YAHOO!

Well, you'll only be about one hour from one of my favorite places, St. Simons Island!

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?

Ok, I posted earlier about Savannah. It's a lovely place to visit, but we decided it wasn't for us. Here is my .02, coming from New England. You really need to take some time and learn about the area. Visit the surrounding areas including towns you may wish to settle in BEFORE you list your home. I wouldn't leave it up to the hubs to find places to live.
