Call an exterminator.  I have one come to my house every other month.  It puts my mind at ease.

Sorry, I have not read this entire thread so I don't know whether anyone mentioned this.  But when sweeping up mouse droppings, wear a mask.   The "powder" part of droppings that aren't fresh can become airborn and you can contract the hanta virus which is serious.   Always wear a mask when sweeping up from mice.
