Bug zappers end up killing more beneficial insects than the bad ones. Bug zappers also do not kill mosquitos.

Any standing water either needs to be dumped out daily (the mosquitos only need an inch of water to lay their eggs) or if its a larger body of water like a pond, needs to be aerated with some sort of motion device.

Thanks to all for your great suggestions. Kachina, I am so sorry about your Mom. That's my point..... these buggers are deadly. The pond has been here since I moved here in 1956, and there has never been a problem til this year. Jules, thanks, I will try the fogger (how long does it last?) If that doesn't work then an exterminator it is!! My furbaby is protected with Frontline Plus all year long, thank goodness. Wish me luck!!

Best of luck for sure butterfly... my fogger killed them off and solved the problem for the season..... it wasn't like something that only lasted one or two days. Good that your furbaby is protected, but for sure you need to protect yourself because if just one of them carries West Nile and bites you, it's serious. I highly suggest the fogger, and depending on how large your yard is, you will most likely need several cans. I have a small back yard and used 2. Ask the clerk at the garden or home store, but I can assure you that brand does work. They might suggest something else that is better, but keep that Cutter brand in mind. I totally understand what you are going through because last summer it was like a plague. I've never seen the mosquitoes so bad, and we have been pretty dry so far, so not sure what will happen. However, we do live near a river and the fill it for an art festival that is coming up, so that is when the mosquitoes get a chance to breed. I'm gonna fog them!!!!
