I frequently read comments that minimize the importance of the boards and the posters that frequent them. It is just a shopping board, the time spent here is meaningless, we're all anonymous strangers so what is said shouldn't hurt, people that frequent the boards too long or too often need to get a life, etc., etc., etc.

Without reservation I can say that for at least some of us that is wrong, wrong, wrong. Some of us, either by circumstance or choice, lead very insulated lives and rely on the companionship the boards provide.

The friendships I have made on the boards and the support, information and plain old everyday help more often than I should admit has kept me going through some very difficult situations that recently became almost debilitating. I am so grateful to those that shared their experience, knowledge, kindness, time and yes, themselves to teach, encourage, support and truly care. I can't adequately express the depths of my appreciation. I am indebted to you.

The next time someone makes a broad-sweeping post about the insignificance of the boards or posters and you either verbally or even silently agree I hope you will remember this post and realize you can only determine how important something is to you. You are not in a position to know how much of a lifeline the boards may be to another.
