Re: Monkey see, Monkey do...

Our house sits up on a slight hill.  We only have 1 neighbor- he's friendly but doesn't intrude.  On the other side of our house is a stream, then a wooded hill.  Down the front and across the road, another wooded hill.  Behind our house, again, woods.

Sometimes people will notice stuff when they drive by on their way into town and tell us about it when we see them at local restaurants, stores, etc.  Lately the comments have been about 2 bucks hanging out in our front yard.  That's the extent of it.

@Kalli  Sounds like you have a bit of land. We live on about 1/8-1/10th of an acre...not quite to the point that we can shake hands with our neighbors while in the bathroom...but close LOL

We dream of living on an acreage someday...large enough so we can't see neighbors in any direction Smiley Very Happy

@Susan Louise, we have 10 acres.  Probably 6 of that has to be mowed.  Be careful what you wish for!  hahah   My husband does almost all the mowing but I take the smaller mower around the trees that line the driveway and I do the weeding around the house.  I'm thankful for Fall and Winter because we get a break from yard maintenance!  Smiley Very Happy

Re: Monkey see, Monkey do...

@Susan Louise  Hi there, GF, glad you are well and taking care of all those chores.  lol

I was just thinking about something and your neighbors.  If they peek in the windows and try to copy your inside  decorating they'd better be prepared  to shop for a while to gather decor, don't you think?  I know you have a lot of beautiful decor.

When you decorate your porch for the holidays do they do that too.  My daughter's neighbors do, when she puts a pot of Mums or any other flowers out on the porch they get some and put them on their porch.  Really ticks her off.  I told her, at least the neighborhood is pretty. She didn't find that humorous at all.  Smiley Happy

@Susan Louise YES!!!! It's how I know they are watching everything I do.  Makes me think if I went out and pooped in my front yard ...they'd be soon to follow. Woman LOL

@lucymo  Hi GF Smiley Happy

I haven't been able to decorate outside for close to 8 yrs now because they get stolen. The last time I decorated outside, I went back to WM and bought the lighted candy canes again after they were stolen.

Bold as brass, the same bunch of delinquent neighborhood kids came back the next night to take them again! I was only able to replace the candy canes though...not our little snowman Smiley Sad

Thank goodness DH was reviewing our security video cameras the next evening and told me to run out the front door. At least I was able to scare them off and they all dropped the decor and ran.

However, I have not been able to decorate outside since...

I was so happy at the time to have planned out such a nice red and while light display...only for it to come to a sour end.

The next day I removed all our outdoor decorations so we didn't have to watch our front yard like hawks for the entire holiday season...no fun in that Smiley Sad So I wound up donating all the ourdoor decorations to Goodwill.

Here are some pics from back then...maybe you will recognize the Bethlehem Lights little snowman Smiley Happy

@Susan Louise @lucymo

In my neighborhood no copycats when it comes to doing chores, however, there is copying when it comes to outside decor......if I put out a wreath for one of the holidays/national celebrations---(Valentine's Day, St Patrick's, Easter, 4th of July Thanksgiving, Christmas)  I notice my neighbors will put out a wreath too...One neighbor did red, white, and blue mini lights for 4th of July---other neighbrs followed......One person put out Halloween decorations with ghosts and witches.....and other ghosts and witches followed.....It will be the same thing for Christmas....neighbors seem to play FOLLOW THE LEADER, they are too afraid or intimidated to go first or don't know what to do, so they wait before they leap---LOL

@Spurt  Thank you Smiley Happy

Unfortunately, because all the kids were wearing hooded sweatshirts, they were able to keep themselves from being positively ID'd. We did give the police our security tapes for both incidents in case other local neighbors had the same issues.

The only thing that kept me sane about the situation at the time was although they didn't get put in jail for what they did to us, it's only a matter of time before their luck runs out. As an adult, the punishment is more severe. Usually adolescents who do these kind of deeds become adults who get into more trouble...so their time will come.

Re: Monkey see, Monkey do...

Have neighbors like the OP mentioned and those that copy every little thing we do.  I find it rather sicko on their parts.  We shop for our provisions on such and such a day and so they head out to do so as well, we plant this or that flower or plant and so do they, when I used to decorate with a wreath or other item, so did they and they would do their best to replicate it though they would fail at that (I made my own).  When will those people grow a brain and spark some initiative?  Now, we just maintain the property and that's all and so that's all they do as well.
