Several years ago I bought some of the butterfly bushes the Q plant vendor sells.  I planted them in very large pots about halfway between my house and the woods in full sun.  Easy to grow, I just kept them watered when needed. They did attract many butterflies and even some hummingbirds.

I thought they smelled putrid, but the butterflies loved them.

Thank you! I have a perfect large cement planter that I can put out in the pasture and plant it with putrid smelling weeds LOL

Now that you mentioned it, I haven't seen nearly as many butterflies here on the east coast in the last few years as I've seen prior to those years.  Same with bees.   About 6 or 7 years ago, I planted a butterfly bush but it didn't survive one of the harsh winters.

😂

You can't smell them unless you get very close to the blooms, so it's not really a problem.

But you live in the country so I'm sure you've seen the various animals droppings that some butterflies and moths are attracted to. 🤧

My grandson and daughter just hatched 4 Painted Lady Butterflies and will let them go tomorrow in the butterfly wildflower garden they planted.

I had seen a commercial on tv for InsectLore dot com.  It came with every thing they needed including a cup of caterpillars.  They watched them go from caterpillar to chrysallis to butterfly in about 3 weeks time.

It was a fun gift and I was just as excited as they were.

Peacefulness: YouTube Channel. Wayne Dyer's (Full) amazing butterfly story. I've watched the video over the years, and never gets old. This month lost two people in my life crossed over experienced intimate moments with both souls. Love never dies. 🦋

There's a wonderful monarch butterfly preserve around San Luis Obispo, CA.
