@Goodie2shoes Welcome!๐ฅฐ I cannot tell you how many times I became an Olympic sprinter trying to get home before the street lights came on!๐ I was SO happy when I was allowed to hang out with my friends a bit longer!๐
THANK you SO much for caring to share!๐ค

@spiderw wrote:Good ones and relatable!!!! I am glad I grew up with the MOM's then, no regrets and I have wonderful happy memories of childhood and my teen yrs.
@spiderw Welcome!๐ฅฐ My dear mother could be a "tyrant" of sorts, but I am forever grateful for the expectations she had of us; no exceptions! She said what she meant, and she meant what she said; PERIOD!๐

Yeah...I remember that. BUT, there is one glitch...My mother enforced it with a leather whip BEFORE I had a chance to "break the rule".

I have never heard of "use your words" but I'm guessing it's probably different than when I use my words LOL

@Desertdi Welcome!๐ฅฐ I was saddened to read this because I can relate!๐ My dear mother once bragged about how she gave us a "whippin" for FUTURE thngs we might think of doing!๐ซค In spite of it all, she raised "good" kids as she LOVEDโค๏ธ to proudly point out, and all who knew her๐I reminisce now with great affection for some things, and wholeheartedly regret others!
I was a precocious child and I think that factored in to some degree.๐

I appreciate your reply. Honestly, I thought "I was the only one"...and couldn't wait to get out of that house.
Eventually, I accepted a job transfer, and she disinherited me because unmarried ladies MUST stay at home with their mother. (I hit the road anyway.) di

@Desertdi Welcome back!๐ฅฐ Good for you!๐ I have had the pleasure of interacting with, or observing you here on a myriad of subjects, but the one thing that ALWAYS stands out to me is your resilience in the face of MUCH adversity!โค๏ธ I have a much clearer picture now, and want you to know I think you are AWESOME!๐

Another funny one @SandySparkles!
I never had to worry about the language because I never heard my parents swear or use slang. We knew what was expected of us!
My mom was something. If I was crying or upset I was comforted.
But my dad - we heard a lot of things about "the starving children in Africa." I had no idea what that really meant, but when I grew up I found out.
My dad spanked me once. I don't remember what for. It didn't hurt, but my tears were because of the indignity of it.
I, too, could pretty much go where I wanted, as long as I was home before dark!

@SandySparkles @love this. We didn't swear we knew better lol. If I didn't like dinner I made something for myself lol, no fast food drive thru, we didn't cry much we knew better lol. We played outside until we were called in and a bag lunch or paid hot Lunch at school. After school a quarter bought me a coke and a bag of chips lol๐
