i have read a number of articles on the internet about this accident......they all said she was not wearing a seatbelt, she was speeding, they did not think it was due to alcohol or drugs, and that her airbags did deploy.
they did donate her organs, which is wonderful......others lives can go on as hers was ending.
may she rest in peace.

Very sad... And yes, the reminder is important. What I fully fail to 'get' however, is how the family can see this as any kind of 'miracle'... Whaever gets you through, I guess...

Did you read the articles when this first happened? Because at that time, many of them said she was wearing a seatbelt.
All the ones that I've seen about her dying from the accident have said she was not wearing a seatbelt.

no......the ones i have been reading are time stamped within the past 24 hours generally......maybe from about 5 or 6 different sources. the most recent one was from USA TODAY.

Many websites are saying this could have been a contributing factor:
McCollum suffered from a rare tumor that means she can only use nine of her fingers, according to a profile on her in the Princeton Alumni magazine. She just turned 24 a week before the accident.

Is there some reason people aren't trusting the link I posted in my first post? Sheesh. It's all there.

While, of course. tragic it does seem terribly obviously reckless on her part. Not that I want to quite go so far as to say it seems a tad suspicious as why she made such decisions, but for such a smart girl it seems an odd array of bad decisions - all avoidable - which led to her crash.
No seat belt AND speeding AND on a wet road (a road she probably had been familiar with and so should have known it was a bit tricky to begin with).
And one really has to be going fast or even hydroplaned to hit so many trees, spin, go up embankments...
Again, its a terribly sad tragedy and accident. But one does have to wonder what she was thinking or in what mood exactly she might have been in as she got behind the wheel? Was she late for something? Had she come from some argument or bad news?? Something had to come together in a perfect storm of such bad decision-making and recklessness of actions to have contributed to the odds of such a one-car accident happening at all.

How sad for her family and her boyfriend. He used to be an anchor here in Pittsburgh.
