Micro chip......your thoughts please

I was wanting to get my NiKi micro chipped but someone told me that there is some research on it that says the chips...1-can cause pain for some dogs 2-can travel around in the dogs neck & body, that is why they have to search for some when they find a dog & are trying to see if it has one. 3- there are some cases of growths encapsuling the chip & causing serious health problems. Now my DH doesn't want to get NiKi chipped. But the lady at vets office told me our town has an ordinance that u have to have them or u could be fined $500. I don't want to risk his not getting back to us if he ever got lost. Although I have never lost a dog before. We have big fenced yd & keep the gates locked check for any holes under the fence, we also live at the very edge of city limits and on a farm. I want to get it but just don't want to harm our little guy in any way. Would love to hear how others feel about this. Thanks
