A few years ago as I was rushing through the house to lock up as we were going away for the weekend, a tiny mouse and I surprised each other in the dining room. I picked up a glass umbrella stand and placed it over the mouse.

 

On Monday, DH got rid of the dead mouse.

 

we also had a garden shed with a doghouse built inside for our Irish Setter.  It had an automatic heater set at 50 degrees.  One day I thought I saw something large run to the outside corner of the shed: there was a large nest of them dug underneath.  A bag of mothballs did the trick.
