My dog has been on this since May 2014 due to a severe pancreatitis/IBD attack. She will remain on this for the rest of her life. She takes 1/4 tablet (250 mg tablet) twice a day. Since she also has cancer, we have so many other things to consider. We just can't risk any flare ups. She is under the care of an oncologist and internist and I trust them.

Pumpkin seems a little better but I don't think that he's 100% yet I'm taking him to a new Vet Wednesday morning because my old Vet don't seem to be really helping pets anymore and he really doesn't tell you anything so I decided for my sake and Pumpkin's that I would take him to other Vet in town and hopefully he can get Pumpkin back to being himself.

On 3/28/2015 MyBoyPumpkin said:My vet wouldn't give to me in pill form because he said the medicine tastes so bad that it wouldn't work in a pill pocket and I couldn't get it down him in liquid form is the reason that I had to take him there each day to get it. He's lost weigh too.
This is ridiculous. It comes in a very small coated pill that is easy to administer. The problem is that many vets only stock the larger pills for dogs and larger animals and then they quarter it for smaller animals, so that then, yes, it's harder to administer because the taste is more obvious, given that the coating is broken.

I usually prefer the liquid formulations, but not in this particular medicine because some animals won't tolerate it, but spit it back out.

As I said in my earlier post this Vet isn't really helping pets anymore and he's losing customers because of his attitude and that's one main reason that I'm taking Pumpkin to our Vet in town because he cares and they even call you see how your pet is doing.

Check with your new Vet about giving your cat probiotics. Old-school Vets were never taught about this - it takes a vet that is personally working to stay on top of what is new and working. Since many Vet schools receive subsidies from pet pharmaceutical companies and pet food manufactures, they are not always taught from an objective perspective - they need to do that research on their own and not all do so.
Whenever antibiotics are taken it throws off the balance of good bacteria vs bad in the gut. Probiotics will help to build up the good and strengthen your pet's immune system. I had a similar experience to yours and eventually took my pets to a holistic vet who has taught me so much and as helped my animals in so many ways. I give my animals Culturelle - which can be purchased at any drugstore, Walmart, Target, Costco, grocery store, etc. It comes in a capsule that I open and for each animal I mix in half of the powder into the wet food. My furbabies eat it right up. I give it daily for at least 4-6 weeks when then have been sick and then phase out to twice a week all year when all is well. - to help keep their immune system strong.
WARNING: Do NOT give your pet any version of anything that has Xylitol in it (many children's dosage contains Xylitol as a sweetener. Xylitol is seriously poisonous to pets and can easily kill then and at best make them very sick.
Hope this helps and that your cat is good as new very soon.

this is a very strong drug, not just for pets but we used to give it to patients with leukemia who developed very bad infections. It tastes like krap in liquid form so my vet has found a supplier who makes it with vanilla flavoring so they don't spit it out.
Be careful when giving this drug and ask your vet a lot of questions about side effects.
