Comparing NBC's Live and Primetime Figure Skating coverage

Thank you for the link. Apparently, I'm not alone in disliking the Primetime duo.

Oh man! I didn't know I had a choice! Well, maybe I don't in my time zone. But I love Johnny Weir and had no idea he was there commenting LIVE. Shoot, Dang!

I hated to see what happened to Plushenko. I really like him and was looking forward to seeing him skate.

What remarkable courage later for the American skater to get up and finish so well after that awful fall.

I felt so bad for Plushenko. He knew that this was going to be his last Olympics, and to have to leave because of his back. I commend him for not skating, and making his back worse. I'm sure that he would have much preferred to skate, then to have to pull out. But, he knew that he would not be able to give the performance that he wanted.

Was Yuban, then changed to Plaid Pants due to forum upgrade, and apparently, I'm back to being Yuban.

I've read on the ice network boards that when a skating competition is not shown live, the commentating is frequently done after. They play back the competition tape and comment to the tape, they even edit what is said. There are times when a competition is in Europe and the commentators are in the NBC studio in the US.

I watched the team competition both live, then later in prime time. Some of the comments made during the prime time broadcast, suggested they knew what took place. You would not pick up on this unless you had seen the live competition. I think at these Olympics, Scott Hamilton and Sandra Bezic are at the live competition but only to watch. Later the commentating is recorded.

This may not be true for the Olympics.

That is true for many of the Cycling events that are carried on NBC. Phil and Paul will be in a NYC studio for the Tour of Australia for example watching the event on tape.

Loved Tara and Johnny's commentary LIVE in the am. Both of them were critical but respectful and had a great rapport with each other and the main host. Loved Johnny's sartorial splendor, too, and how he and Tara coordinated their daily outfits. Johnny was quite pleased with the Gold Medal winner as he had designed his free skate costume.

Did anyone notice how disrespectful the audience was at the Men's Event after Pluschenko withdrew? About 2/3 of them got up and left by the time the final group took the ice. I felt badly for the skaters playing to an almost empty house. I think it's shameful.

it sounds like peggy fleming is the other commentator, but i may be wrong.

No, it is Tracy Wilson... she was a Canadian ice dancer and for the life of me, I don't know why they put her in an Olympic commentary spot with Scott. She is so off base and annoying.... I actually love the commentary that Tara and Johnny do, their banter is great and they are both spot on with their critiques because they are current and understand... not to mention the great fashion moments. Loved their contrast outfits when he did black and white and she did white and black. They are the future of Olympic commentary... Tracy is sooooo boring.

I also LOVE Johnny and Tara. I find their comments to be insightful and appropriately timed. The other commentators don't add anything to the broadcast IMO... very little, although I do like Scott Hamilton.
