Most definitely the same in NYC. 

 

I don't know when that changed because my daughter had basically the same civics requirements, including saying the "Pledge" in our suburban Connecticut town in the 1970's

It is clear that the majority of the populations does NOT understand the constitution and only repeat what they have heard or read from questionable media sources.
