Her hospital room got decorated by Preston Bailey (who organized daughter Melissa’s long back wedding — now divorced) with flowers, bows, plants. Joan’s blanket? Dennis Basso’s white faux mink. CDs play “Oklahoma!” Her perfectly manicured nails, deep purple, feature white designs. Toenails, green. Hairdresser and makeup people are dressing hair and making her up. Mount Sinai’s even allowing her dogs in for a moment to kiss Mommy. Joan, whom I love and loves me, trashed me in her new book. Once, when I wasn’t feeling spiffy, she arrived uninvited and made me sit up, alongside, to watch her 90-minute documentary. She carries restaurant leftovers home. She says: “The dogs wait for it.” I personally believe she eats it. My housekeeper admired her costume jewelry. Joan took the stuff off and gave it to her. A 2nd Avenue Deli dinner night. She arrived done up for a red-carpet event. I complained: “Nobody here’s inhaling matzo balls in sequins. With rhinestones yet.” Her answer: “That’s their problem.” And that’s the Joan I’ve known. This pretty much says it all for me.
They have her on some sort of support so her friends can come & say goodbye.
So sad! I know what it's like waiting for the inevitable - many of us here have kept that bedside vigil...I really feel for Melissa and Cooper.
Oh dear, I agree...darn it all...this sounds final.

This makes me so angry. It shouldn't have happened. A woman of her age should have had the procedure done in a hospital, and I'm not alone in thinking that.
Geez, her daughter must be devastated

I pray for her recovery, but it sounds like they put her in a private room for her friends to come and have the time they need to say good bye. I pray I am wrong.
I agree Noel...I think beyond a certain age these procedures should be done in the hospital. I am so saddened by this.

What a shame that would happen to anyone. I read the clinic was a mile from the hospital.
Here's some info from Yahoo Celebrity:
Although Joan Rivers is now resting comfortably, her only daughter, Melissa, potentially faces a tough decision ahead.
According to the New York Daily News, the 46-year-old may soon have choose if and when to take her mother off life support as the Fashion Police host is said to be completely dependent upon machines.
The 81-year-old legendary comedian has been hospitalized since last Thursday when she stopped breathing while having a routine throat surgery at a New York City clinic.
"My mother has been moved out of intensive care and into a private room where she is being kept comfortable," Melissa said in a statement on Wednesday. "Thank you for your continued support."
Of course, she is being "kept comfortable" in true Joan fashion.
Her close friend, longtime gossip columnist Cindy Adams, told the newspaper that Rivers was upgraded to a larger private suite that was "decorated by celebrity wedding planner Preston Bailey with flowers, bows, plants." Joan — who is apparently in full hair and makeup — also has a white faux mink blanket with her and the Oklahoma! soundtrack on CD in the room.
Conflicting reports were spreading this week about Joan's condition after she was placed in a medically induced coma. Melissa clarified the speculation in a statement on Tuesday: "On behalf of my mother and our family, we are extremely grateful for all the love and support we've received. At this time she does remain on life support."
The New York Health Department is investigating circumstances at the clinic, Yorkville Endoscopy, where Rivers went into cardiac arrest. Spokesman James O'Hare said on Thursday that the department is looking into "the whole matter," but declined to discuss specifics.
E! Entertainment, the home of Rivers's weekly show Fashion Police, also released a statement that the show will go on hiatus for two weeks.
"We will not be producing a Fashion Police this week or next as we await Joan and Melissa's return in front and behind the camera," the network said. "E! will be airing two E! From Fashion Week specials that will deliver the latest news and information from the highly anticipated event."

Are they turning off life support today? I just read that.

This is so sad and I pray that Melissa finds strength and comfort in knowing that so many people care about her mom.

I hope Joan had her ducks in a row concerning decisions that have to be made in these cases. We have everything in writing, advance directives. Joan is a smart woman and loves her daughter, I'm sure she made sure these things were taken care of, otherwise it's a decision Melissa has to make.

I'm sure QVC is aware of Joan's condition. They took down their get well wishes post to Joan yesterday.
