Re: Melissa Rivers announced . . .

Having read and currently on TV, Melissa decided to take her off of life support and that is why she was put in a private room to rest as comfortably as possible. My Mother said many many years ago, there are some things WORSE THAN DEATH....and I believe with my total being had Joan not have recovered as she would have wanted, God was merciful in taking her home and this was God's grace for Joan and her family.

Re: Melissa Rivers announced . . .

Joan has now joined the ever growing list of our (my) generation's icons leaving us. It's the cycle of life, the old . . . making room for the next. I remember my father saying at his 75th birthday . . . "your toin (sic) will come." I am now 76, I was 50 then, the age of my children now.

Joan knew her days were numbered, she talked about it all the time. When one gets to this age, one knows the years are probably limited to single digits. She did not die naturally, something went wrong, but she had lived a very long and successful life. She is now part of the ages, something we will all be when our time comes. She lives only in our memories.

My heart goes out to Melissa, Cooper, and all those who truly knew and loved her.

Re: Melissa Rivers announced . . .

Ford, I was saddened to hear about her botched surgery last week. It must have been very difficult for Melissa to make the decision to move Joan from CCU/ICU to a private room. When I heard that, I knew the "handwriting was on the wall" and that Joan would pass quickly and peacefully. She is now with her beloved Husband and I'm sure Melissa will be able to take comfort with that fact.

The Robin Williams' tributes, recently by the Celebs, were wonderful in the wake of his tragic death, and I predict the tributes for Joan will be equally as plentiful, as people will remember the "good" Joan (of yesteryear) as opposed to the tasteless "jokes" she has told (and not apologized for) in recent years. Personally, I prefer to remember her for who she was instead of what she had become in her Golden Years.

What I wrote on another thread is this: I will remember her as someone who was authentic to herself, who lived her life to the fullest and in the PRESENT. And that is a good example for everyone, regardless of age.

As I have mentioned in other threads, I am overdue for my bi-annual endoscopy by about six months. That happened because I had the back surgery last August (a year ago). I've never had a problem with them, always did fine. But I must say I'm a little nervous now. I've had six to eight endoscopies over the years, maybe more, I thought so little of it I really can't remember now. Now my age concerns me.
