All of these reports about her being in a medically induced coma came through "unnamed sources". NONE OF IT VERIFIED!! Just goes to,show what happens when you believe "unnamed sources,

If you read the article linked right above this post, Melissa herself said her mother is in a medically induced coma.

You don't just stop a medically induced coma - it is weaned off slowly - then once the person eventually awakens you do not just remove the life support - it too must be weaned off slowly. The process requires a great deal of patience, and a lot of time. I am a retired ICU RN - so I know this - I am not just giving an opinion. You are unlikely to hear any info of any value for a while yet.

Thank you so much. I was hoping a medical professional would weigh in. I posted on another thread I thought this would be a long process. I'm not a medical person but given Joan's age it seems it would take a while. People are so impatient. They believe you wake up quickly and are back to normal. Common sense would tell you it doesn't work that way.

JMO I would take it as she is unable to breath on her own. Like someone else said it is a slow process.

Melissa DID NOT SAY JOAN WAS IN A MEDICALLY INDUCED COMA. She said she was on life support. You could be on life support because you are in a medically induced coma OR you could be on life support because your heart and breathing are not functioning on their own and you are being kept alive by machines .

Geez louise calm down. I misread the article as the entire paragraph being a quote from Melissa and it was not.

However, every single news source has reported she's in a medically induced coma. I'm not talking about just the rag sites. But I guess that doesn't really matter because they all could have it wrong.

Re: Melissa Rivers announced . . .

The last article I read about the medically induced coma said the process of weaning her off would take several days. We have to be patient.

Re: Melissa Rivers announced . . .

I found a site of doctors and those in training and the discussion is she may have been given too much propofol causing a hypoxic arrest(Hypoxic brain injury is caused by a reduction in oxygen supply to the brain), not having the right equipment and even kick backs to the clinic(s) for use of anesthesia. I am beginning to think Melissa may have a real lawsuit and this may open a whole can of worms and hopefully bringing this out to the general public. Also the use of CRNA(certified registered nurse anesthesiologists) instead of Anesthesiologist's might be something to know before going under.

CRNA is not the issue! MD's always want to go here because they feel it's "their" territory not a CRNA. MD's are very territorial and this has been their cry for years & years & years.

We've all heard MD's denounce Nurse Practitioners as encroaching on "their" territory. An old song they keep singing.

""not having the right equipment"" and ""kickbacks to the clinic""??? Pure speculation and so distasteful IMO.

I read earlier where the Doctors were slowly taking her off of life support to see what was going on, so I guess we really don't know what is going on!

This is my originally post, and for some of you the word "slowly" seems to not be registering in your mind in my post!!!!!
