Medication given in the ear

I am not talking about medication to treat an ear infection!

One of my kitties is going to go on medication for hyperthyroidism. We are offered the choice of liquid (no way), pills, or apply it to the inside of the ear (a gel?).

Has anyone done this? I'm just wondering if they can groom or shake it out!
