I just received a letter from a medical software company that apparently works with doctors and medical facilities all over. I get these same letters occasionally from other stores and always keep an eye on my credit card account to be sure there is no fraudulent activity. The companies always offer free credit monitoring for a while as did this one. My bigger concern was this letter indicated not only did the hackers now have access to credit card information but all medical records as well, including diagnosis, medications, etc. I’m upset about the violation of such private matters.

Re: Medical records hacked?!

I have been hacked more than once.  It's so aggravating because I try to keep everything safe.

I don't have medical apps anymore as that is where I was hacked as they are 3rd party apps.  Seems like medical facilities want you to use them for appointments and other things.

I received the same letter.  I've received these letters several times over the last couple of years, its incredibly annoying.  I just watch all my credit info to make sure nothing weird is going on.  I feel like that's all I can do at this point, I didn't sign up for the free credit monitoring they offered.  Fortunately, I haven't had any issues.

Medical facilities are the worst. They have lax security standards and don't seem to care about our privacy.

Re: Medical records hacked?!

The other day I found out that map apps use cell phone information to track traffic congestion.  You know, those red line?

I give up.  Have fun looking at my health and banking too.

I don't know why but the medical facility that i  use switched from Doctors carrying laptops using wifi to a system of wired in terminals in the exam room.  Not a fool proof system but still better.

Re: Medical records hacked?!

I doubt anyone living this crazy life, these days, has avoided being hacked. It's happening everywhere. Military facilities and even the IRS have been hacked. It is frequent with medical facilities, but all hacks aren't equally invasive. It depends on who is doing it and what info they're digging for.

The hacks that place your information on the Dark Web are downright life altering. I'm there now, after a very dark hack at my credit union that I've been fighting for the last year, a hack that opened up all my info, across the world. My credit card number even traveled to London, without me. A newer card I had never used. Yes, banks and credit unions are great targets for thieves.

We're helpless to avoid this situation, if those we're doing business with have failed protection. When we're notified of a hack, it often has happened several months before letting us know. By then, quite a bit of damage has already been done. That's what happened to me, after being the most cautious person ever with my info. I might as well have put up a billboard downtown, with all my personal info. Yeah, I'm angry!

[ Edited ]

Millions of people 's heath care companies or health insurance companies, credit card  companies, background check companies ,  Federal  Gov ect and the list goes on as to who has been hacked .  Very little  compensation given to us consumers . Looks like most companies get off the hook by providing " free credit monitoring " for one year .  Some institutions are being sued such as Johns Hopkins health systems  but  most all  of the compensation will go to the attorneys , abt $14 goes to those affected.

How abt that commercial where  people can draw up a fake Quick claim deed and confiscate your home property ? Why do the local  county & state  offices let this occur  so easily ?

Why does the Federal Gov let this continue ?

Re: Medical records hacked?!

I received a similar letter from a law firm I worked at 25 years ago.  All of their wealthy clients' private info and the staff personnel records, including SSNs, were hacked.  How was my private information even still on their computer systems that weren't very sophisticated 25 years ago?

They gave me a website to sign up with for protection, but now I'm afraid to sign up with that organization in case they get hacked!
