@Kachina624  Hope you are recovering from your surgery.  Take care...DW

@dancingwoman   I had  Basel cell carcinoma removed and I'm a real mess with lots of stitches and purple bruising.  I'm in self-imposed home confinement for several weeks.  Have more surgery in middle of March to fix it.

Thanks for all your well wishes.

@Kachina624

Best wishes for a speedy and quick recovery!

Re: Medical masks

[ Edited ]

I visit all lady that I take care of who is now in a SNF a couple of times a week.  For the last two weeks, there has been a sign on the door advising  of a flu outbreak.  It suggests you not come in unless you have to.

Also, right inside of the door there is a wall station with tissues, face masks and hand sanitizer.  This is stationary and has always been there, but now the masks.....usually two boxes are gone.

Once inside, there are doors that divide every wing or hall.  They were usually open all of the time.  Now they are closed.

Some, but not all of the employees are wearing masks.  I got a call last week advising that every patient was getting tamiflu as a safety precaution.

I still go in without a mask and wouldn't wear one if they had them.  The masks are effective from keeping the wearer from passing germs, but they do not work the other way around.

Right now they are in short supply because people are buying them as a " feel good" item. "   They give you the false idea that you are protecting yourself.

It is better to wear gloves so that you do not touch contaminated services.  Hands harbor many germs.  Wash your hands often and do not touch your face, or eat anything without washing your hands first.

There are millions of germs on food wrappers, door knobs, handles on freezers in the grocery stores, movie theatre seats, hand railings, etc.

Wearing an everyday mass produced mask is not going to protect you from the flu or coronavirus.

Center of Disease Control is advising NOT to wear a face mask

unless you are sick with the COVID-19.

@Kachina624   My two sisters each had that surgery recently...my younger sister on her upper thigh and my older sister on the side of her nose at the bridge.

After surgery the surgical site looked awful, but now that it's healed, I can hardly notice.

I pray that your feel feel better soon and that you heal nicely with little scaring after your second surgery.

After all the news plus social sites harping on the "mask issue", just for yucks I looked up my local Home Depot.  They are still listing them on their website but they are not available for delivery and my local Home Depot is out of all N95 masks.  In the event this impacts me personally we would stay at home and when one of us (not all three of us) would go out as seldom as possible.  Probably only outtings would be to Wal Mart to pick up pre ordered necessities.

I recently bought a box of N95 masks for my husband (who has COPD) to have on hand. Now, you can't find them online, or in stores, or they are asking 3x the price. The N95 mask is the only one that protects against this new virus.

Don't you have to be fitted for the N95 masks? It seems like I read that and also they will not work for people with beards.

I need to go google that.
