Usually documents are retained 7 yrs. But, not all documents need to be saved. I save our medical docs for one year only for tax purposes. If you are ever audited, you can get copies from the original source. They must retain docs seven years as well. You can also access your bank records.

I’d shred them

If they are only related to your late husband then you can shred them. If you want to keep any of the info, scan the pages you want and keep them in a file on your computer. Even if you never need them, you may feel better knowing they are there.

Wow, I bet that was a surprise ....  Had they retained any value?

Anything used on taxes I save for 7 years but that is kept with the tax return.

Work was getting rid of an old shredder a few years back and I asked if I could have it.  That baby shreds anything.  I shred about every other month and keep a waste basket  just with stuff to shred.  It is amazing how much I do shred.

We had a business at one time and I was able to shred all those documents and kept them in the garage up above.  I spent the summer in the garage shredding and moving things out.  I did this after my husband passed and had to keep myself busy.

I would keep it all for at least 4 more years.
