Re: Meanwhile Down in Florida...

@NYCLatinaMe  I think they are harmless but I was about 9 ft away behind a sliding glass door! I have seen them much, much bigger in the parking lot at preschool pickup for granddaughters. Prehistoric looking!

Is this picture for real 😳 ???

yes. During mating season, the males search for females- they will cross over lawns, go in open doors, I've seen them actually walking down the street. They are looking for any body of water that might have a female in it

I currently live in central Florida. We were here about 3 years before I ever saw an alligator. Finally spotted one in the lake by our town. I don’t think they travel too far from their body of water.

I'm also in central Florida 👋

And, this is at the back door!

I live in So Florida!

Is that an iguana?  We had one as a pet when I was a kid.  He was sweet and gentle.

Re: Meanwhile Down in Florida...

I live in SW Florida and gators are common in the lakes on golf courses.  As mentioned, gators will move around quite a bit during mating season.  Don't leave your garage door up!  Gators will wander into garages or under cars.  And eat small dogs.  Gators can run surprisingly fast.  I don't live anywhere near water or on a golf course, so gators aren't a problem for me.  But, I have had wild boar and black bear in my yard.  Now, those two critters are a lot scarier than a gator.  Six months ago I saw one of those big green lizards in my yard, about two feet long.  I've noticed that the population of palm rats (roof rats) in my yard is way down lately.

An estimated 700,000 people around the world, 400,000 of them children, have died so far due to the discontinuation of the USAID program.

Re: Meanwhile Down in Florida...

@Kachina624 @Every year when I would go down to Florida to visit mom , I usually went later winter or early spring. It's gator mating season then and just about every night on the news there would be stories of gators getting into peoples' yards, front porches, garages or pools!

My mom even told me a story of a gator on her doctor's porch.

I remember decades ago when they were on the endangered species list...not anymore!!

LOL. Same.  Or a squirrel getting into my potted plants and digging up my dirt.

@Kachina624 Wow, and to think I kind of freak out when I open my front door and see a little lizard scurry by. I cannot imagine this and would probably have a heart attack.

I lived in Houston over 30 years.  Never again would I live in a tropical or semi tropical climate.
