I think that the Meal Train is a kind and generous offer by the community. For those that wouldn't eat food from other people's homes, I guess you have never viewed some of the kitchen restaurants.  It can be a real head turner.

So much negativity on this great idea. Hopefully, those that find this kindness unacceptable will never need this service.

Years ago we had a young mom in our neighborhood with cancer. Her kids were maybe 8ish and 10ish, Dad worked locally. Her mom would come and help her during the day.

'

The problem was she couldn't take smells of food cooking. She was sick from the chemo and the food smells made it worse.

We got together and would cook and deliver the food to her mom so meals were ready for her and the family.

As I also had two ovens, I cooked them an entire Thanksgiving dinner including dessert.

It was never called a Meal Train. Just something we all got together and did.

I learned about meal trains with the passing of several family members in recent years.❤ It was an invaluable service to us.👍 They even made certain we had fresh milk! Many of the meals were homemade, while some were from our favorite restaurants. All we had to do was heat then eat!😁

What surprised me were the number of gift certificates we received so that we could order what we desired. Some were from local restaurants! I have nothing but HIGH praise for such services, and would consider it an honor to participate in one if the opportunity ever presents itself!💝

Thank you for mentioning the milk, @SandySparkles.  I'll be sure to bring a gallon, and maybe some eggs, on my day(s).

My daughter and I have both participated in meal trains for a few years now
Usually the people only want meals every other day or 3rd day
Along with the meal or gift card we take a frozen family size stoufers lasagne ,that way they can have a ready meal

We’ve had a lot of people tell us how much they appreciate it

@JeanLouiseFinch Milk was a great idea!  My dad loved whole milk ( i know not the best thing for him) and a banana.  When he passed a young neighbor wanted to do something for us so she had her mom take her to the store and she bought bananas, milk and doughnuts (another favorite of his) my mom talked about that for days!!

Another idea is if you don't want to do food is volunteer your time.  I have written thank you notes, mailed letters, folded clothes, pick up dry cleaning etc.  I believe any of these gestures will be appreciated and show kindness to others!

@JeanLouiseFinch I hadn't heard of that particular site so thank you for the information! I also appreciate the fact that there are multiple ways to help those in need. Bless your heart for signing up! I always quietly do what I can to help others in need as I am not always a joiner, however, this particular site sounds very organized. ❤️

@JeanLouiseFinch  If it's possible and not already included, suggesting donations for paper products would aleviate dirty dishes piling up.
