Which do you prefer and, if mayo, which brand?

We like mayo, but haven't been known to refuse anything made with Miracle Whip lol. I prefer Hellmann's, and I've tried just about every brand such as Kraft's (not as rich) and Wegmans (so-so).

I remember mom buying a brand called Cain's because Dad loved it--it was thick, creamy, and rich. Many of the local delis around here supposedly used it for their mayo-based salads. Mom used to get it at a store called Hegedorn's, but you can't find it now. DH has some relatives in Maine, and one of them mentioned that it hails from New England.

How about you?

No Miracle Whip here. We use Best Foods, which is the west coast version of Hellmann's, and lately I've been buying Costco's house brand.

Regular Hellmann's Mayo - very sparingly.

I was just thinking about asking a cousin if she still prefers Miracle Whip after being raised without mayo in the house. I tolerated M.W. when I visited there but would never buy it.

They only share similar color and similar consistency but they are nothing alike in flavor.

I do like ""sandwich spread"" once in awhile but it is more of a mayo base with relish.

I am trying to cut back on mayo use because of fat. Using Best Foods with olive oil currently. No Miracle Whip.

I agree....I prefer Mayo but don't mind a little MW on a sandwich if that's all there is...but never in a salad.

I'd posted this on another thread not long ago:

I'm hesitant to discuss mayonnaise. I remember the only fight my mother and stepfather ever had was over mayonnaise. I think they were at the grocery store and my stepfather picked up the wrong brand.

Years later I mentioned this to Better-half and then made the mistake of making what I thought was a completely benign comment:

""We were a Miracle Whip family.""

He took it as an insult to him and all his ancestors and it got ugly.

Be very careful discussing brands. It's like politics and religion.

It's only MIRACLE WHIP for me.

When everybody was home and to satisfy everyone, I had to have a bottle of each in the refrigerator. Now, I have learned to live without and don't even have one bottle of mayo in the fridge! If I want to use something of that type, I use a Ranch/Jalapeno dressing. ! It is really good on veggies - creamy but with a bite! Because of calories, I use very little, but it does the trick!
