The heavens gained and angel and we lost a remarkable woman. Both will benefit from her gift.

Sorry to hear this. Was surprised at her age. She seemed ageless.

86 is a wonderful age to leave this world......
I heard on our local news a little bit ago that she was born in St. Louis.....and that I didn't know.

Many years ago I was behind my cosmetics counter and a lady walked up to me and said
would you like to show Miss Angelou some lipsticks?
I thought she was kidding but I waited a minute and the next thing she was at my
counter!
She was so gracious and lovely and regal!
I was so nervous but she was so kind and made me feel at ease.
Wow, what a thrill that must have been for you! And regal is certainly a good word to use to describe her.
I think what always struck me most in such a positive way about Maya Angelou was her speaking voice. So soothing, calm and peaceful.
I'm glad she was on this earth for as long as she was, and that she was not taken from us at a younger age. She had a good long time in which to share her many gifts. RIP

It's funny how some people become part of our culture, or our consciousness anyway, and you think they'll be around forever.
It may sound strange, but I actually think 86 was still too young. I thought she'd be with us until at least 100.
Me too !
And she was still tweeting and working to the end.
There will never be one like her again.
