Hi Birding Friends ~ sorry I was late 'refreshing' the nest for May.
Last week Sunday when I prepared to cut my grass in the back yard, I came across a sparrow egg on the patio. The shell had been broken - and I could see the baby, almost fully formed. I don't know if the mother tossed the egg out or if it was an accident. Either way, it reminded me of Poppi and Peewee, and yes, I cried my eyes out. I decided to see if there were any other babies in the house, so I lifted the roof panel (that's the access for cleaning) and low and behold, there was a nekkid screaming baby sparrow. At least my sparrow couple has one baby that is doing well. I didn't speak to the baby other than saying Whoa. As soon as I backed away from the house and put the ladder away, momma bird was in the house checking out her baby.
Some people welcome Spring with tulips and daffodils. I measure my seasons by what my sparrows are doing. I know when Mother's Day is coming without even looking at a calendar. The first sparrow babies in the bird house always hatch right before Mother's Day.
I'm rambling again
and need to get moving ~ have a great day.
