Listening to the sheriff from Martin County, many many people will NOT leave....he's pleading with the public to leave.

It's a mandatory evacuation area

I shudder to read that.  My aunt is in St. Lucie county and I haven't even asked my family because I just know she's still on the beach cursing at the storm as it's coming in.

My sister lives in Deland, FL and they're on track for a direct, category 4 hit. Sandy was a cat 3, Katrina a cat 5. I think we can picture the impact and result of a cat 4.

And no, she won't leave. Sigh.

I'm sure these people are afraid to leave their homes unattended, especially older people with the crime nowadays, but they have to realize their lives are more important than anything else.  Hoping they all come to their senses.

I pray that they won't regret the decision to stay.

And that their decisions don't end up hurting others.

I wouldn't want to think about what to take with me in the event of an evacuation.

Their lives are important but they made the choice (for whatever reason). The lives of those put in danger BECAUSE they made the foolish choice to stay is what pisses me off.

We have the same stupidity here in Southern California during wildfire season. Some (okay, mostly men) decide they can fight a raging out-of-control fire with a garden hose and end up getting first responders killed.

No amount of pleading or pointing out that this is not a drill makes

any difference. I hope my sister comes to her senses while she still has a few hours to get out She lives less than 20 miles from the open ocean.

I'd like to spray those guys with a garden hose set on jet stream.
