First gold medal for the US in the 1500 meters in *108 YEARS!*

He couldn't believe it. He just kept staring at the results. His father, a former Olympian, was there, and his mother and sister. They went happily bananas. You know they're all going to bawl all the way through the medal ceremony 😄

It was sweet to watch - the win and the afterward.

@Moonchilde

the track and field events have been spectacular the past two weeks!

yes, i saw him and i saw his family in the stands. i think they were almost shocked that he won. did they say which olympic sport his father was in?

i felt so sorry for the us mens 4x100 relay team and the disqualification!

@sunshine45, his father ran the same event - and has the same name - today's winner is Matthew Jr! Spooky!

I feel bad for all the disqualified athletes. Small things, but they have to do that for the sport. Very sad when it happens, though.

Thanks, @GATORGIRL :-)

I also loved when the silver medalist came up behind him and clapped him on the shoulder like "yes, you did it!"

I have been hoping they would show his medal ceremony, but I don't think they have.

Re: Matthew Centrowitz

There was one American runner last night, (I'm sorry, I can't remember his name) who came in second (yea!), only to find out that he had been disqualified for stepping on the track line (bummer!), only to have his finishing re-instated (yea!)

Talk about an emotional rollar-coaster ride!

I am also proud for Jamaica and Usane Bolt's accomplishments!

The USA did a wonderful job at the Olympics!  Thank you to all the participants for a job well done!
