Yellow footed green pigeon~~~~

Birdmama, Thought Grayson might like to see some of his relatives. They are really different.

Beautiful pigeons. One of the things that I like about pigeons is the way they drink water. They go for it like a dog would, just put that beak into the water and really drink it.

Hello Birding Friends - Since I bought this house and moved in, I've been working my way through the trees in my yard from a maintenance perspective. I've had a silver maple removed because the original owner planted it along the fence and it was buckling my neighbor's driveway (roots). I lost a crab apple and sugar maple to illness and the rest have been professionally groomed by an arborist. I finally got to the tree in the back of the yard. This tree has had me stumped for years because I didn't know what it was.
The arborist came out yesterday to provide an estimate (tucked into my storm door -lol) and the mystery has been solved. It's a mulberry tree. I also learned the pine nearest my house that will be groomed to get rid of some dead branches is a spruce.
It's sort of embarassing that I can only identify maples and elms but what are you going to do? Those are the most common trees I saw growing up.
I made the appointment for the work to be done on April 6th, since I have that day off of work. When Mike gets here, I will have a pen and paper and point at every shrub on my property to ask him - what is that?
I call them all evergreens or pines and I am sure there is more to that
I still keep in touch with the lady who was the sole owner of the house. I wish should would not have planted many of the trees so closely to the fence. That mulberry is distorting my chain link fence a bit. One thing's for sure - as long as that tree is healthy, I will have the fence redone before I take that tree down.

Now that I've been posted a bird of the day for 18 months, I still marvel at all of the varieties of birds out there. I also wonder who gets to name these different species and variations on the species. Wouldn't it be cool to name a bird? I wonder what the person was thinking when he or she named this one.
The bird of the day is the Smew

I just saw a black squirrel on my front deck eating a rose from the fifteen foot plus climbing old English rose. I never knew that squirrels ate rose petals. He looks adorable sitting, moving the flower around it his paws munching away.
