Re: March Bird's Nest - Welcome the first signs of Spring

The day began with light wispy snow that accumulated until the sun came out. It's cold and doesn't feel like spring {#emotions_dlg.mad}.

The bird for the weekend is the Eurasian Capercaillie

Re: March Bird's Nest - Welcome the first signs of Spring

Have happy birds outside. Cleaned their bird bath and filled it with water - also filled all the feeders so needless to say they are eating like it has gone out of style. Do have an irritated cat however, STripes is ticked as I got him in and in he will stay unless he sneaks out. He spent the last two nights outside but was waiting for me at the crack of dawn.

Had Belle and Miss Girl Kitty out in the Kitty condo today, aka Dog kennel, but it is sure a nice place for them. It is 8 feet long and three feet wide. Covered the top with chicken wire so they could not sneak out - course it has a shaped tarp as a roof and is sitting between gorgeous jasmine bushes. The sun never hits it full blast so the bushes and shade make it very nice. They have food bowls and a big water bowl and of course a litter box - not bad. Have plywood covered in towels over part of it so they have a place to nap other than the dirt. Belle, however, prefers the dirt, Miss Girl Kitty does NOT. I have to put them out there so Miss Blackie and Conrad can have full reign of the house that use to be theirs alone - works for everyone including me as all those cats - while they are all angels - well sometime, drives me nuts at time. Never in my life did I ever think I would spend over $400 to house 2 cats in nice weather. Mercy me. Did not put them out there ever in the colder weather. Even now I wait until it gets warmer which is about 9 or so - our mornings are still chilly but by 9 it is heating up. When the temps drop they do not go out at all. (The kids changed their names as when Belle was first rescued from an alley garbage can she was named Gizmo. Miss Girl Kitty was called Tiger. Had to put their new names as
AKA's with the vet as their shots were in their original names but no more. Sigh. Also have both names on their chips. What we do not do for great grands.

Am tired - been a busy day - so will call it quits. Hope all had a great day. I did.

A close-up of one of the Great Horned Owlets taken this morning at the Savannah Nest cam.

Birdmama, Wild Birds Unimited Owl Cam is up and running with a Barred Owl mama sitting on 2 eggs already. www.wbu.com is the link. She sleeps a lot right now, nothing else to do, I guess, but keep those eggs warm.

Have a great Sunday, Birding Friends

The owls have grown so quickly. This year I am limiting myself to the Berry College Nest - of course that could change when Decorah starts hatching. It's been awhile since I've checked the Decorah nest.

The bird of the day is the Hazel Grouse
