Re: March Bird's Nest - Is it Spring Yet?

Mousiegirl, you indeed do have the patience of Job. Just thinking about what you are doing drives me crazy - amazing what age does to the thinking process. {#emotions_dlg.lol}

Possum, my brother tweaks a lot in his cooking - he is the cook in the family. Interesting in that Dad was NOT the cook in this family other than turkeys at Christmas and Thanksgiving. But ONLY the turkey, nothing else. Mother had a rule, she did the cooking and someone else would do the cleaning - always worked for her. Often Dad did that part. What a combo those two were - sometimes super funny and once in a while we raced for the exit for a spell.

Bird Mama, your birdies are so cute and Possum, forgot to mention that the white peacock was awesome. Speaking of birdies, I have not filled the feeders and am running a few days late on that. Will try and get them done before church but if not, definitely afterwards. Don't fret for them as they have gotten to where they leave a lot of food in the tube feeders - that use to be the only kind I had except for two HUGE other feeders. Got rid of the monster feeders and put a couple smaller ones in their place. Did leave one big feeder out back hanging in the tree right outside the back yard - the bigger birds - like doves, bluejays and crows tend to go there. Interesting in that I continue to put the black oil sunflower seeds in a tube feeder and of course that is the first emptied. Those birds are not dumb. I also need to clean and refill the Hummer feeders - again very few Hummers are showing up. Would surely love to know what is going on with them. I have three feeders for them plus the roses are blooming like crazy so there are a lot of yummies around here but the birds are again very few. That started some months back and that is a rare thing as far as Hummers are concerned.

Hope all have a great day! While it is quite cold this morning am expecting warmer weather today. Please keep doing raindances for us - we still need more - lots more.

Winifred - I think the reason I procrastinated for so long is because I knew what a nightmare remodeling could become. Do you grow Salvias on your property? They are heat tolerant, ask for hardly any water, come in so many colors and bloom times, and the Hummers LOVE them! I have a ton of different varieties here, bought them on line so I could get variety, and from Fall until Summer there is one variety, pinky/reddish/coral that blooms in profusion, so the bees and Hummers are feasting like crazy! Believe me, if you have Salvias, not the edible type, you will have Hummers.

Re: March Bird's Nest - Is it Spring Yet?

Bird Mama - that is the strangest looking owl I have ever seen - fasacinating. So many different creatures out there isn't there?

Got pretty cool today - this morning it was ugly and we had some rain - not a lot but it will help. Then the winds started and they were pure ice. Now the sun is in and out but the experts say by tomorrow it will be pure sunshine. Just hope the wind calms down. Not expecting any warm weather however for a few days to come.

Refilled some of the feeders but still have not cleaned the hummer feeders and refilled them. Did just finish cleaning the cat boxes - not difficult here as STripes usually uses the outside bathroom so they rarely get any too messy. In case that does not make sense I DO clean OUT the boxes each day - change the litter weekly. Figured perhaps I had best explain that

Hope all are fine.

Winifred, the long eared owl makes me laugh. That bird has such strong facial expressions. The picture I posted above makes the owl look like someone snuck up on it and scared it.

This one, the owl looks ticked off or bored, I can't decide which.

This one looks like - wanna be my friend?

This one looks like - okay, now you are going to get it

Birds Scraps and Graphics

Hi Birding Friends, Sorry I haven't posted in a few days. I have 2 GSs all by myself this week as DS and DDIL took a bit of a break from work and headed to the Keys for some rest and relaxation. DDIL had wanted to do something special to celebrate DS's 50th birthday in June, like a trip to Vegas, but he chose this few days in the Keys as he loves them all most as much as I do. They are having fun in Key West. Crazy place, but I love it there. Lots of happy memories of good diving and great seafood and just relaxing around the pool or snorkeling in the Atlantic or in the Gulf. Strange but on one side of the islands, it's the Atlantic Ocean and on the other side, it's the Gulf. We had gone to Key West for over 25 years, spending about 10 days there and then to the Upper Keys, Islamorada, in particular and spent about 10 days there. Love both areas and both are so different than the other.Image du Blog mafoirfouille.centerblog.netI find that true of Florida. The Keys are like the Bahamas in many ways, laid back and casual. Palm Beach and areas there are not as casual but beautiful and fun with lots to do. Daytona is beach oriented and has big crowds. On the West side of Florida, Naples and Sanibel, Fort Meyers, shelling, good food, calmer pace of life. Tampa, a southern city with great seafoods, a wonderful aquarium and beaches on the Bay and not far from the Gulf. Orlando and the theme parks, a whole different story. Go go go, but then there's the water parks and all that fun, with the wave pool. Love that too. It seems like each part of Florida has a different kind of style and ambience. It's a never ending adventure to see all of the different parts of this state. I figured out years ago that DH and I had spent a couple of years of our life down here, spread out over about 30 to 34 years of our life together.(39years). That was before I started being here for so many months on end. 200 days for one year. I guess all states have the same different types of areas, with different paces of life and entertainment. Lots to see in this great country of ours.{#emotions_dlg.wub}

So for this week I am chief cook, chauffeur, washer, etc. Youngest GS had 1/2 day of school so I took this opportunity to take him to lunch at Red Robin, his choice and a good one, at the Mall. Had a few things to pick up at Body Bath shop and of course, Godiva. Then I had to have him at the dentist at 3:30. Then there's the laundry, cats, birds and grocery shopping. Been keeping busy. Did get my tax stuff sent to the CPA, I hate that job of finding all the info. and having to get all of it sent and owe $$$.

Birdmama, That long eared owl reminds me of what you said. He looks like someone startled him or scared him. I wonder if they always have that type of expression on their faces. I had to google and check and found a few "normal" owl expressions for the long-eared one, though many had that scared or surprised look. ~~~~I have been following a Bird of Prey sanctuary that's in Ireland, on Facebook. I'd love to post some of their owls, eagles, hawks, etc., but the photos are really huge, almost like wallpaper, so I don't copy and paste. They have people come and interact with their birds, which is cool as it helps with conservation efforts.

Waving to all Birding Friends, Mousie, Winifred, Birdmama, Meuw, Stepping Stone, Sweetpeace, Hooty, Loves. Annika, Luvsbulldogs, and any I may have missed.{#emotions_dlg.crying}
