Re: Mandatory Gift???

[ Edited ]

I have never heard of such, but these times they are a changing....not sure if that was a song or what, but it does come to mind. I think now it seems like anything goes.

Personally, I wouldn't put that on an invitation, but if it were a close friend, I'd probably buy them something and go.

Life is short. When we get up in the morning, we have no idea what the day will hold. If its a good friend, I woudn't want to lose a friendship over it.

Also, it could be like @cherry mentioned, and she just typed it a little wrong.

Consider giving them your selections from a gift registry. Otherwise you may get a lot of junk you may not want or need.

I've never heard of mandatory gifts. I don't think I would go to the party.  It's really tacky...

I find it very tacky to give yourself a birthday part at all, for starters.  A former co-worker I knew did that for one of her significant birthdays.  I did not attend.  No mention was made of gifts, but she was clearly expecting that she would receive a lot, from what I had heard!  I have no problem ignoring an invitation that I feel is that obnoxious!  Mandatory gift???  I think not!!!!!

Someone my husband worked with invited him to their wedding.

The invitations were handed out in the office.

The RSVP card was already filled in that they reserved 1 seat for him.

There was no stamp on the RSVP envelope to mail it back and the kicker was...

There was a small card included stating that if you were going to give them a gift, please make it cash.

@Snowhite714  As has been previously posted, it is tacky.  I would have other plans for that evening.

The next time that I hear salt and ice together, it better be in a margarita!

I wouldn't attend the party.  No one needs friends like that.
