@beckyb1012 there is nothing wrong with Pinwheels they are just as good as Mallomars. As for something not being as good as you remember, maybe they were better back in the day, the formula has changed to cut corners, or when your a kid you don't have very high standards!

I didn't grow up with them but have had them since moving to the Mid-Atlantic. And I wasn't crazy about them - which is surprising since I have a sweet-tooth to rival anyone's. Maybe I expected too much, since everyone here raves about them. But I thought the bottom cracker was too thick and the chocolate covering was too bitter.

I never had a Mallowmar. How are they different than pinwheels? Pinwheels was the first thing I thought of when someone described Mallowmars. They look similar. I do like Pinwheels occasionally but by the time the box is finished, I am done with then for a while.

King Arthur has a recipe to make them at home. They're called Mallow Bars.
They're easy to make and taste better than the commercial brand.

@turtle52 You make a good point but do you realize how many food products contain gelatin (collagen)?
Also medicinal capsules and cosmetics do not have to list it.
Choice. It's ok.

@QVCkitty1 Thank you so much for the Amazon mallomars tip! I looked all over Safeway's cookie isle yesterday and couldn't find them, but I just bought two boxes on Amazon today
. I'm going to dunk them into hot cocoa while watching my favorite reality TV shows. Good times!

They had a big display at the store today but at $5.59 they can keep them & I don't need the extra sweets anyway!

@KathyM23 that's how I feel , I get a box and really love them and by the time I've finished I'm over it for awhile . Mallowmars don't have the chocolate bottom it's vanilla I guess I'd call it that's the real only difference . They do taste different, but can't pinpoint why . They are just good , I hope I can find them .

Aren't Mallomars coated in a darker chocolate and Pinwheels in more of a milk chocolate? Both are pricey. I occasionally buy Safeway's not bad generic version.
