Are you a city mouse or a country mouse?

Hi everyone. I remember going to Toronto and finding it to be very nice but not that many people on the street. It was a little strange being in a major city and wondering where all the people were lol? This was 20 years ago so I'm sure that things have changed. What cities have you traveled to that were like this? Have you traveled to cities that were severely overcrowded? TIA

@JBKO

If you want crowds, go to Tokyo! I grew up in a big city, went to college in a small city, and have lived in several major metro areas, incl L.A. spent lots of time in Manhattan in my career and loved it.  I love living in a rural area now with room to breathe. I never thought I would reach this point, but I outgrew my love of big cities. Who knew?

Been to NYC many times and I would not live there if I was paid to do so. Too many people(unfriendly to boot)/too much trash/too much noise, and taxes? No thanks!

Why would you go there many times if you don't like the city or the people?

Re: Major City but not that many People? NYC has me Spoiled.

I have been to many major cities in the US, Canada, Mexico, South America, Europe, Asia. I enjoyed them all whether they had a big population or not. From what I remember, I found most people very accommodating.

I can be in NYC in no time at all and love the vibe. However, now my favorite city seems to be Boston. Love the history and sights to see. Everyone is very friendly, as am I.

With that attitude it is no surprise you feel people are unfriendlly. We don't have time to waste on condescension and arrogance. Not to worry, no one would invest a dime to have you move here. Your loss!!!! It's a great, energizing, compassionate city that has all environments other that rural to live in. We have the greatest police force, fire department and other services around thanks to our taxes. Not to mention the availability and choice of the best medical care around.

Hey @hckynut why didn't you call me on your last visit here? My husband and myself could show you the beautiful city with very friendly people in its best light. We have some of the finest cuisine in the world and we would take you to areas where there is not a speck of trash or a lot of noise for that matter. Some of the finest museums in the world,

Please do not judge our beautiful city by hockey games at Madison Square Garden. Venture out and see all the beauty you clearly missed.

Re: Major City but not that many People? NYC has me Spoiled.

Hi to you @Trinity11,

My wife liked what she saw about our NYC trips. So much so that I paid for her, now deceased mother, to go on a trip there, just to look at places they wanted to see.

I have never been one to like looking at sights, in any city. I traveled through most of the Midwest, and kinda West, Colorado, a lot during my close to 20 years of Drag Racing my Race Cars. Went around as much as I could in the limited time I was in each city(State).

For me, traveling has and still is, goal oriented. My preference is going out of time for a specific purpose, or event. Seeing the sights, regardless of their beauty and or history, has and will never be "my thing".  My wife? Just the opposite, she likes traveling and seeing historical and other things in other places and countries.

Fortunately for me, her brother is also a person who loves old history, and also likes traveling. They have gone to many places for those reasons. This month her brother is going on a trip to different countries for a couple weeks, she will be Pet Sitting his dog during the time he is gone.

He lives in a city about 60 miles from our home so I probably won't see her at all during that time. Fact, she left yesterday while I was ice skating, for an 8 day Pet Sitting job in another city, which is about an hours drive from our home. Unfortunately, her cell phones(Sprint and TracFone) will not work, and this house has no landline. She managed to reach me through the FB Audio Chat thing, whatever that is called. Guess that is our only way of communicating until she gets back home, and I do not like it.

Hope you are doing better and improving in every way possible. I know you have been dealing with a lot of serious health issues, and I certainly understand the toll that takes on a person's body and mind.

Other than surgery on my big toe, I am in great physical condition, after about 14 years of 1 setback after another. I am making the most of this because nobody knows what the future has in store for them.

Thank you for your response, I really appreciate it,cand your love for the greater NYC.

Your Friend,

JOhn(hckynut)
