My mailman just picked up the food donation that I put out and I think that it's great that they do this. There are many food insecure people in my area, and anything that brings attention to this situation is a blessing. Did they do this in your community?

Yes, here too.

I think I remember our mail carrier saying it's a national food drive by USPS.

in our area, groups of Boy Scouts will help unload the trucks to take to the food pantries.  Maybe this is every where too?

Yes -  I think it's a national effort.  I really like it in a selfish way -  I clear my pantry of everything I can before changing snowbird residences and I'd rather donate than to give to my neighbors who truly don't need my leftovers.

Yes. I was out on my walk this morning and saw several mail boxes with donations. It is a wonderful idea! No one should ever be hungry in this great country of ours.....but sadly adults and children do go hungry on a daily basis.

We volunteered to collect this year again and , sadly, we had a large area to cover but only got 6 bins full. DH is out now trying to get some more but our area is rural and the people have horses and livestock so they are up & out early. When we took our stuff back to the food bank we noticed there wasn't much there. A couple mail trucks were there and they had some so we helped them unload. I feel the post office should do more to advertise this day.

I put our contribution out next to the mailbox at 7 a.m. and it's still there.  The mail has been delivered.  Maybe it will be picked up by a separate truck?  This has never happened before.

I don't think anyone was tooting their own horn, but gently reminding everyone to put their donations out.   I am shocked by how few do this.
