I love candy but if you want another alternative... Cut a piece of ginger root and place in hot water w/honey. It always makes me feel better. Ginger can be stored in the freezer if you use it infrequently. If you are not ingesting the ginger, you can leave the skin on or just scrape it off with a spoon. It just much more difficult to peel it.

I'm sure the candy is nice too, if you aren't watching your sugar intake
I always have some Canada Dry Diet Ginger Ale on hand, but I've always heard good things about the Vernors brand. Have to look that up. Glad they also have a sugar-free.
I don't drink soft drinks much at all, but I keep that on hand, as well as Diet 7-Up, and Diet Squirt (just cuz I really love Squirt!).
They make Vernors here in Michigan, but I think it had a limited distribution. It tastes heaps better than Canada Dry

Yes, I have Crohns and I get nauseous quite often. I get zofran from my dr but I find many times that ginger and peppermint are even more effective for me.
I eat ginger several ways. i do use it a lot to cook with and put it in salad dressings I make. I use my microplane to shred it into tiny pieces. I also just buy a big piece of it and cut it into little coin sizes and chew on it. I also make my own candied ginger. I follow Alton Browns recipe for that. It is really easy.

Thanks for the info, Cherry! Maybe they don't sell it out here in the West then. If not, I do like the Canada Dry one - hey, maybe because I never tasted a 'better' one, eh?
I'll try to remember to look, next time I'm in the grocery store.

@chickenbutt, it's generally considered there is more ginger (and I believe more carbonation) in Vernor's than other ginger ales - all others are a (literally) "pale copy" of Vernor's. It's darker in color than Canada Dry, and to me CD tastes hardly more than fizzy water to me compared to Vernor's.
I WISH they made Diet Squirt in 6-packs instead of only in 12-packs. I have never seen a 6-pack of Diet Squirt in any market in CA. Once in a while I'll buy a 12-pack, but wish I had the choice.
I've discovered a delicious new soda that's not "diet" but still low in carbs - will make a post in Wellness.

Okay so the title of 'candy' may have thrown you off but keep in mind where I purchased my 'candy': GNC. It's real ginger with some sweetener and tapioca for consistancy. I've done the raw ginger sliced in water for a tea but it can be a bit overwhelming...Kind of like gnawing on raw garlic (which is fantastic for colds)
How much actual ginger is in Ginger Ale these days? The Canada Dry?

Vernor's Ginger Ale is my favorite, too. It has a little more ginger bite and flavor than some others.
I love candied ginger! It is good for settling the stomach, as is ginger tea. You can also use ginger root (fresh or powdered) to make a poultice. It heats up when you make a paste out of it.

Yeah, I only see he 12-packs of Diet Squirt. Fortunately, it stays good for a long time. I buy those three 12-packs (one of each, diet GA, diet 7-up, diet Squirt) probably every 10-12 months, at the most. I keep most of it out in the garage and put a few of each in the refrigerator at a time.

Vernors Ginger Ale is famous for its very carbonated, very sweet flavor. It is also used by some to cure hangovers and sore throats. This soda was invented in 1866 by James Vernor, a pharmacist practicing in Detroit. He was trying to create a drink that calmed upset stomachs. After experimenting with a vanilla and ginger concoction, he placed the mixture in an oak cask and went off to fight in the Civil War in 1862. Upon returning four years later, he discovered the fermented mixture had taken on the added flavor of aging oak. For years he only served it at the soda fountain located in his pharmacy. As demand grew, he sold the drink to other soda fountains and soon opened up a bottling company. His son, James Vernor, took over upon his father's death. The family eventually sold the drink in 1966 to an investment group, which in turn sold the beverage to American Consumer Products. It was sold to A&W Beverages and later to Dr Pepper Snapple Group, the current owner.

That's the only thing I've been able to drink for several months. I was going through dealing with a loss and could not eat or drink anything ... even water. I mean I literally could not eat or drink anything. I tried ginger ale and it worked.
